Safeguarding is about saving lives and not excluding them.

On Zero Discrimination Day, we join the call to Save Lives: Decriminalise, because discrimination and stigma can prevent children and caregivers from seeking the help they need.

Let’s build protection systems rooted in compassion, justice, and inclusion.

Every year on October 11, the world unites to celebrate the power, potential, and promise of every girl. The International Day of the Girl Child reminds us that when girls are empowered through education, protection, and opportunity, communities thrive and nations are transformed.

In 2025, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every girl has the right to dream, to decide, and to do. Girls are not just the leaders of tomorrow. They are changemakers today, shaping families, schools, and societies with courage and resilience.

Yet, millions of girls around the world still face barriers from early marriage and gender-based violence to unequal access to education and healthcare. Now is the time to invest intentionally in girls’ rights, amplify their voices, and build a world where they can live in safety, dignity, and purpose.

Let’s stand together to ensure that no girl is left behind. Let's work to see that every girl continues to believe, rise, and achieve her God-given potential.

Empower a girl today and transform generations.

At Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII), we recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health especially for children, adolescents, and caregivers in vulnerable communities.

This year’s theme reminds us that wellbeing thrives in connection. Together, as families, communities, and organizations, we can create safe, supportive environments where every child and young person feels seen, valued, and heard.

Let’s continue to:
*Break the silence around mental health.
*Build supportive networks and safe spaces.
*Promote healing, hope, and inclusion for all.

Join us in fostering a culture of empathy and care because safeguarding today means securing a mentally healthier future.

Throwback to a powerful 3-day training at Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Through our joint effort with UNFPA, AUN and the government of Norway, Safeguarding Children Initiative strengthened awareness on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Protection Mainstreaming.

With the Student Union, lecturers, and leadership of the school present, we emphasized building institutions that prioritize safety, dignity, and inclusivity for all.

Together, we are building inclusive, dignified and safe spaces for all.

At Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII), we believe that safety and dignity must never be compromised — especially within institutions entrusted with care, education, and protection.

We are proud to implement this initiative, sponsored by the American University of Nigeria, @ UNFPA Nigeria and the Government of Norway to promote zero tolerance for Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH).

This campaign reinforces a powerful Call to Action: Protect survivors. Prevent abuse. Promote accountability.

Together, we can build environments free from gender-based violence, especially in emergencies, where vulnerabilities are heightened.

Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII), with support from American University of Nigeria, UNFPA Nigeria and Government of Norway, has officially kicked off a three-day intensive training on Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH) in academic institutions.
This training brings together lecturers and student union leadership from Ramat Polytechnic to strengthen their capacity in identifying, preventing, and responding to SEAH across learning spaces.

Why This Matters:
Institutions of higher learning must be safe havens where dignity, equality, and protection are non-negotiable. By equipping key influencers with the knowledge and tools to challenge abuse of power, promote survivor-centered responses, and reinforce accountability mechanisms, we are laying the foundation for systemic change.
Over the next two days, participants will develop institution-specific action plans, explore referral pathways, and identify practical steps to integrate safeguarding principles across all levels of engagement.
We remain committed to building an academic culture where students and staff feel safe, heard, and protected.
Let’s work together to end SEAH in all forms.
Swipe to see moments from Day 1.
