Unimaid Drug Free Club Attends Orientation at the Chemistry Department
On 15th April 2025, the Unimaid Drug Free Club participated in an orientation session organized by the Chemistry Department at the University of Maiduguri. This event marked an important step in promoting awareness about the impacts of drug abuse, particularly for newly students.
The highlight of the orientation was a compelling paper presentation delivered by the School Representative, Ahmed Ali. His presentation focused on the *Effects of Drug Abuse*, shedding light on the detrimental effects that substance abuse can have on individuals, particularly students.
He discussed how drug abuse not only affects personal health but also impairs academic performance and reduces productivity in various fields.
The Unimaid Drug Free Club is committed to advocating for a drug-free lifestyle and aims to continue collaborating with departments across the university to raise awareness and educate students on this critical issue.
The orientation was a significant success, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in promoting a healthier, drug-free environment for all students at the University of Maiduguri.

On 10th April 2025, the Unimaid Drug Free Club participated in an orientation session organized by the Agriculture Department at the University of Maiduguri. This event marked an important step in promoting awareness about the impacts of drug abuse, particularly for newly students.

UNIMAID LAUNCHES DRUG-FREE CLUB TO COMBAT SUBSTANCE ABUSE
The University of Maiduguri has strengthened its efforts in the fight against drug abuse by collaborating with Drug-Free World Africa and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to launch an awareness campaign against substance abuse. This initiative highlights the need for collective action in addressing the growing issue of drug use among young people.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele during the launching of Unimaid Drug Free Club on Saturday the 22nd February, 2025 at the NUGA hall of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele reiterated the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on academic success and societal development. He encouraged students to take an active role in promoting a drug-free environment by abstaining from substance use and influencing their peers positively.
Professor Laminu stressed that addressing drug abuse requires a joint effort involving institutions, government agencies, civil society groups, and students. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to working with Drug-Free World Africa and NDLEA to tackle the issue through education, awareness, and proactive interventions.This initiative he said, marks a significant milestone in promoting a drug-free culture within the university and the larger community, reinforcing the commitment to safeguarding students and empowering them to make informed life choices.
He urged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free lifestyles, stating, "Say no to drugs. Together, we can build a campus and a society where young people flourish without the influence of harmful substances." He also congratulated the newly inaugurated executives of the University of Maiduguri Drug-Free Club and urged them to uphold a drug-free culture on campus.

DFWA Conducts Virtual Screening Exercise for Drug-Free Club Unimaid
The Drug Free World Africa (DFWA) Borno State Chapter, in collaboration with the Dean of Student Affairs, University of Maiduguri, conducted a two-day virtual screening exercise for students interested in joining the Drug-Free Club Unimaid.
This vital initiative aims to promote a healthier, drug-free lifestyle among students on campus.
The screening panel consisted of 12 executive members of DFWA Borno State Chapter. A total of 43 student applicants participated, with 14 being interviewed and 29 absent.
It was inspiring to see numerous students committed to fostering a drug-free environment on Unimaid campus.
