REDRESS AGAINST THE UNLAWFUL ACTIVITIES OF THE EFCC IN TARGETING NNPC STAFF**
**UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE MINORITY TRIBAL FRONT (MTF)

We, the Minority Tribal Front (MTF), strongly condemn the ongoing harassment and unlawful arrests of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) staff by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This issue arises following the recent public comparison between the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) refined by Dangote Refinery and that of the NNPC. It has been widely alleged that Dangote’s PMS is of superior quality and durability. However, these claims were officially debunked as baseless by the recently dismissed NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Abakayri. Despite this clarification, the EFCC has exploited the controversy as a pretext to target and unlawfully detain NNPC employees, creating an atmosphere of fear where many staff members now avoid reporting to work due to the threat of arbitrary arrests.

Reports indicate that several NNPC employees have been arrested outside company premises and detained for extended periods without access to legal representation or a fair judicial process. Disturbingly, it has been alleged that the EFCC demands unofficial settlements before granting release, turning what should be a lawful investigation into an extortion scheme. Those unable to meet these financial demands remain in detention indefinitely, a practice that amounts to state-backed abduction. Such actions not only violate fundamental human rights but also undermine the integrity of our nation's institutions. The abuse of power by the EFCC further fuels disillusionment within the workforce and damages public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.

In light of these alarming developments, we call on the presidency, the National Assembly, and relevant authorities to launch an independent investigation into these abuses and hold the EFCC accountable for any violations of due process. The agency must be restructured to prevent further misuse of power, ensuring its operations remain transparent and just. No individual or institution should be victimized based on unfounded allegations or political motivations. We urge immediate government intervention to safeguard the integrity of the NNPC and protect its staff from unlawful persecution. The Minority Tribal Front (MTF) stands firm in its demand for justice, fairness, and the protection of workers’ rights in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
