Date: Wednesday, 22 July 2020.
Topic: Live the Light
Text: John 1:4

For some days now, we have been talking about shining the light in the context of taking conscious steps to impact people around us, however we like to quickly remind us that shining the light is not primarily dependent on that.

Jesus went about shining the light during his time through preaching and praying for people and it is in similar way that we go about shining the light for God through; singing, speeches, counselling, teaching, writing, praying etc, but we must note that in shining his own light, Jesus said "the words that I speak, they are spirit and life". In other words, as he preached to and prayed for people, he was only passing across the life in him to them. Such is God's weighty expectation on us.

Jesus' light should be inherent in our lives and living such that as we take steps to shine the light, men will not receive something contradictory to the light we so profess. Your life and your works for God is the light. What do men see when you supposedly shine the light🤔

DATE: MONDAY 22nd June, 2020
TOPIC: FAITHFULNESS (2)
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 4:1- 2

While we were able to establish yesterday that there is a responsibility to propagate Christ as believers and as such we all are Ministers of Christ and Stewards of the Mystery of Christ. We should look at what makes a person a Steward and what are the traits that should be seen in us as stewards.

A steward is defined as a person who manages the property or affairs of another person. So you see as stewards, you are placed in the management of things that does not belong to you but rather to God. As stewards if we have shallow knowledge of or we do not have the knowledge of whose affairs we are managing, we may err in faithfulness. Is it God or Men?

The World has its standards and even God’s Standards of course exist and even stands sure.
With the understanding that we are accountable to God, we know whose standards we are to meet. We know whose guide we are to follow and we know who we need to run to in any circumstance.
Who are you accountable to? Hope your focus has not shifted?

TOPIC: WHILE WAITING
TEXT: Ps. 43:5

Everyone in one way or the other experience a waiting period. At that point where manifestation of answered prayers are not seen, weariness sets in.

Sometimes, God allows believers to experience this in order to test their faith or due to other peculiar reasons. While you are waiting, keep hope alive.

Are you getting discouraged already about that situation? Is your soul already downcast? Christ comfort and strength is always available if you rely on him completely.

TOPIC - LIVING WITH HOPE
TEXT - 2THESS 2:16&17

God chose us to be among the first people that he would save. He saves us because his Spirit makes us God’s special people. God’s Spirit makes us separate from everything that is bad. God saves us because we believe him. We believe what is true.

God, through our Lord Jesus christ had shown how much he loved us, and has promised to give good things to us all. The greatest of these things is to live in the beautiful place with Christ, who is so very great.

Just as Paul encouraged in this passage, we must continue to be brave and strong for all time. No matter the situations or challenges we face, no matter what the government or economy is saying, we must be strong in our minds and hope strongly for these good things He has promised.

He is full of grace and love, so faithful to end. Pray for strength to continually do and say what is good and right at all times.

TOPIC - HOPING AGAINST HOPE
TEXT - Romans 4:16-25

To hope against hope means to allow the hope of God's possibility swallow up the hope of man's impossibility. From today's passage, we see Abraham manifesting such a hope that cuts across all natural expectations.

While all the elements of hope around him negated God's promise of giving him a son when he and his wife were passed the age of childbearing, Abraham held steadfastly to the promise. From human point of view, the promise was absurd yet Abraham took God for His word.

Abraham's hope was strengthened by God's conviction that every impossibility was possible with God. He convinced himself that God was greater than the promise and that His power could make things happen.

Has God make a promise to you and every visible factor that could strengthen your hope of obtaining the promise is negating the possibility and fulfillment of the promise? Remember that God is greater than any promise and that "faithful is He who has promised" (Heb 10:23).

TOPIC - OUR SOURCE OF HOPE
TEXT - ISAIAH 59:15-21

Praise be to Jesus who offers hope that is beyond this life and all its limitations. When all men failed God, Jesus arose personally for our help.

The text for today shows that isreal's waywardness reached an alarming level that prophet Isaiah associated them with "the blind who groped for the wall and stumbles at noonday as in the night". But, in the midst of such cloud of uncertainty, God, the Almighty Redeemer, promised to visit Zion and those who repent of their sins. He assured them that His Spirit and word shall not depart from them.

Is your "sin state" so high that you have lost hope of receiving forgiveness? Do you assume you have wandered so far away from God to the point of no return? There is good news for you. God, who is able to redeem you from sin, death and hopelessness is about to forgive you and give you his spirit and word to abide in and with you. He is the source of hope In that your hopeless condition.

TOPIC - PRAYING TO ACCESS WISDOM
TEXT - James 1:5

The matter of wisdom cannot be trivialized. One of the important deductions from our consideration of this subject since Monday is that it is not a casual matter.

Wisdom is not something to be gained on the street or from your social interactions. Do not mistake experience as wisdom. Wisdom is a divine element necessary for a fulfilled life, and it resides with God and not on the street. If you are only concerned about thriving in the world, then you can talk about being "Ja" or getting "sense" in the world, but if you are concerned about living well in the world and gaining heaven, then you must look towards attaining wisdom.

Today's scripture principally reveals that wisdom is from God and not in the world. Wisdom is not something to be picked from the world, but a divine access to be prayed into.

Does the matter of wisdom challenge you especially in relation to issues of your life, have you viewed your life in the mirror of *James 3:13-18* and considered that your lifestyle is deficient of wisdom, then God is waiting for you to ask for this void to be filled. Pray today to gain wisdom and continually pray to sustain and increase wisdom in your life.

TOPIC - Wisdom Lifestyle 2
TEXT - James 3v13-18

The manner at which wisdom as expressed in our present society is such that if Cain where to be around now, he would have claimed to have used sense in deceiving his brother - Abel to death, and Jacob too would have claimed a display of wisdom for usurping the position and blessing of his brother, Esau. You must have heard people saying 'i used sense/brain for him*. Infact, wisdom is the word some people use to justify and beautify lies.

Whereas, Wisdom is not merely using 'sense', but rather having a good sense or judgement and an ability to do things better. It is therefore not wisdom when it is an action taken or not taken as a result of bitterness, envy or selfish ambition. Such display of sense/ wisdom according to James is does not come from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, and of the devil. The best such lifestyle could yield is disorderliness and promotion of evil practices.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Wisdom is only traceable to lives where the aforementioned are consistently exhibited, as lifestyles.

TOPIC - Wisdom Lifestyle 1
TEXT - James 3v13-18

Wisdom is a necessity for growth and every notable achievement on earth. It will always take wisdom to build not only a house, but every venture.

Solomon in his Proverbs revealed what level of assurance wisdom can provide towards facilitating a good life (Prov. 8v12-21). Wise men are therefore encouraged to respond to the goodness of wisdom by their good living and deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

The basic qualification for wisdom is the fear of God and true wise men cannot but continue living in this manner as the wisdom that comes from God is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, submissive, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Wisdom is only traceable to lives where the aforementioned are consistently exhibited, while every contrary lifestyle is a clear definition of foolishness, and of wisdom that is not of God.
