We are excited to commence our interesting studies of the 'Schools of Thought' that formed the basis of most Architectural Designs.

Today, we will be the studying the Minimalist School of Thought...a design concept that evolved after the World War II.

The term Minimalism which was highly influenced by the Japanese traditional design and architecture describes a trend in design and architecture, that reduces the subject to its necessary elements.

The core concept of minimalist architecture aims to strip everything down to its essential quality and thus achieve simplicity. While the idea of ornamentation is not completely jettisoned, there is a call that all parts, details and joinery are considered as reduced to a stage where no one can remove anything further to improve the design.

In modern words, Minimalism describes a form at its most simple yet beautiful state requiring no additional element to it while taking off elements from it will affect its beauty.

Minimalist artists include Donald Judd, John McCracken, Agnes Martin while their architectural contemporaries (who propagated a refined style of minimalism) are Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Tadao Ando, John Pawson.
