🚨Breaking News: Victor Boniface Recalls Tough Days in Norway: “I Collected Two Months’ Salary in Advance Just to Fly Home to Nigeria
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has opened up about the financial struggles he faced during the early stages of his professional football career in Norway, revealing that he once depended on advance salary payments just to visit his family in Nigeria.
Speaking in a recent interview that has gone viral on social media, the Nigerian forward reflected on his time at Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt, where he said he earned only €3,000 per month.
According to Boniface, every December he would request two months of his salary in advance so he could afford a flight ticket back to Nigeria for the holiday season.
“I would take my two months’ salary upfront every December so that I could go home to Nigeria. I was receiving only €3,000 then in Norway,” he said.
The revelation has sparked widespread reactions online, with many football fans applauding the striker for his perseverance and determination despite the financial challenges he encountered at the beginning of his career.
Many Nigerians described his story as an inspiration to young athletes pursuing opportunities abroad, noting that success often comes after years of sacrifice and hardship.
Boniface’s football journey has been remarkable. From earning a modest salary in Scandinavia, he has developed into one of Nigeria’s top forwards, attracting global attention with his performances in European football.
His comments have also reignited discussions about the financial realities faced by many young African footballers who move overseas in search of better opportunities, often leaving behind their families while adjusting to new environments.
Today, Boniface is regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest football stars, and his story serves as a reminder that behind many success stories are years of persistence, sacrifice and resilience.
His emotional reflection has continued to inspire fans, proving that humble beginnings can pave the way for extraordinary achievements.

"Nigeria gave us one of the toughest tests because they can hurt you without needing many passes."
Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez praises the Super Eagles after their friendly encounter:
🗣️"It was a fantastic test. The opponent was demanding and from a different football culture because we don't usually play against African teams.
Nigeria have players with a lot of physical ability and they use attacking movements very well. They don't need much combination play to get into dangerous areas, and that's a very strong aspect of their game.
It was a difficult match. We created opportunities and improved in the second half, which was very important for me.
Making nine substitutions at halftime and still being able to continue with the same idea while improving our game control was very pleasing.
Nigeria had a good first half, but in the second half they didn't have a shot on target. Our intensity without the ball improved, and winning always helps confidence.
But the most important thing is having the team prepared."
High praise from Martínez, who believes Nigeria's physical strength, pace, and direct attacking style provided exactly the kind of challenge Portugal needed ahead of bigger competitions.

"Messi didn't just give me his shirt he gave me another one and told me to sell it to help people in need."
Vincent Enyeama on a memorable moment with Lionel Messi at the World Cup:
🗣️"When I met Messi at the World Cup, I told him, ‘Messi,I want your shirt after the match.’ He replied, ‘Hello, you will give me your shirt as well.’ I told him, of course.
After the match,we went into the tunnel and I found Messi waiting for me. He handed me a new shirt with his name on it and another shirt signed by all the Argentine players.
He told me: ‘The first one is for you, and the second one, sell it and do some charitable things for people in need in your country.’”
Not even 24 hours later,I started receiving offers from photographers and companies. I eventually sold it to a well known photography company.
Messi is a great player and a very emotional person who loves doing good for others. I am very proud of him."
Beyond the goals, trophies, and records, Enyeama's story highlights a side of Messi that many fans may never get to see.
