Every 10 minutes, a woman in Nigeria is r**ed, assaulted or killed.

This is more than a statistic. It is a reminder of the urgent need to confront gender-based violence, strengthen protection systems and ensure survivors have access to support and justice.

Silence enables violence,
Action saves lives.

Sexual violence in conflict leaves lasting scars on individuals, families and communities. Yet, for many survivors, the struggle does not end when the conflict does.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we stand in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm the need for protection, accountability, access to support services and justice for all affected.

No one should have their dignity, safety or future taken away by violence. Together, we must continue to raise awareness, amplify survivor voices and work towards a world free from s*xual violence.

When conversations about s*xual abuse take place, boys are often left out of the narrative.

The reality is that boys can also experience abuse, trauma and violence. They deserve to be heard, believed and supported.

Protecting children means creating safe spaces where boys can speak up without fear or shame. This is essential for preventing abuse and building a safer future for everyone.

Through the WARIF Education School Programme (WESP), we convened Parent-Teacher Forums at Morocco Comprehensive Junior High School, Somolu Senior High School and Angus Memorial High School, creating an opportunity for meaningful conversations around Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child protection and safeguarding.

Parents were equipped with knowledge on how to recognize signs of abuse, understand available support and referral pathways, and learn more about the impact WESP has had on their children.
Teachers also shared firsthand observations of the positive changes they have seen in students since the programme began, while strengthening their own capacity to respond appropriately to GBV-related concerns.

When schools, parents and communities work together, we create safer environments where children can learn, grow and thrive.

Today, we join the global community in commemorating the World Day Against Child Labour.

This year’s theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” is a powerful call to action to end child labour in all its forms and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, play, and thrive in a safe environment.

Child labour steals childhoods, denies access to education, and exposes children to harm, exploitation, and abuse. It is unacceptable that millions of children around the world continue to be trapped in situations that rob them of their rights and potential.
