Works of a Mason’s Square in Building Construction

1)Checking right angles (90°):
To Ensures corners of walls, columns, and rooms are perfectly square.

2)Setting out wall corners:
It Helps mark correct angles when starting block or brick work.

3)Aligning blocks and bricks:
To Confirms blocks are laid straight and true at corners.

4) Checking vertical and horizontal alignment:
It’s Used together with a level to maintain proper positioning.

5) Marking straight cut lines:
It Guides for accurate cutting of blocks, tiles, or timber.

6) Ensuring neat finishes:
It Prevents twisted or crooked corners in walls and pillars.

7) Verifying formwork angles:
To Confirms shuttering and formwork corners are correctly positioned before concreting.

8)Quality control:
It Helps detect early errors so corrections can be made before work progresses.

Here is Why it’s important👇
A mason’s square ensures strength, beauty, and professional finishing. If corners are not square, roofing, plastering, tiling, and fittings will later give problems.
When you get the alignment, straightness and corners right with square, it will not consume your materials trying to correct errors later and again your work will look neat and professional.

Note our beautiful Clients it’s Same principle, but different material! 😊 Just like a good concrete mix, a proper POP (Plaster of Paris + other additions we use you can check one of our videos on the page on that) mixing ratio and installation ensure a smooth, durable finish. Get it right for long-lasting results! 🏗️

“We stopped casting in the sun - and the cracks disappeared.

Sometimes, the best engineering lessons don’t come from textbooks they come straight from the site itself.

We’d been casting our pavement sections in the heat of the day, using retarding admixtures to slow the setting time. But nature hadits own plans - hairline cracks kept appearing, mocking our mix designs and best efforts.

So, we tried something different. We cast at night.

Cool air. Calm site. No blazing sun.The result? Zero cracks. Perfect finish.

That was when it truly dawned on us - it wasn’t the mix design that failed, it was temperature compatibility. When both your

environmental temperature and concrete temperature are reading 35-40°C, no admixture can perform miracles.

Lesson learned:

Concrete behaves like a living thing - give it the right environment, and it will reward you with strength and beauty.

Why Professionals and Contractors Must Not Appoint Tradesmen as Site Supervisors

This message is directed to contractors and built-environment professionals. Construction engineers, builders, and project leads must stop the practice of appointing carpenters, iron benders, or bricklayers as site supervisors.

Periodic site visits do not replace structured supervision. Skilled tradesmen are engaged to execute work, not to manage, interpret, or control construction processes. They are foremen, not supervisors.

Role Discipline Is a Professional Responsibility
On a properly managed construction site:
- Tradesmen execute tasks
- Foremen coordinate daily workmanship
- Supervisors interpret drawings, specifications, and engineering intent

Supervision is a professional function that requires theoretical understanding, technical judgment, and accountability. This responsibility rests with trained professionals.

Contractors and professionals should instead engage:
- Junior engineers
- Graduate engineers or builders
- Young architects

Even with one to three years of experience, these professionals understand construction theory, can interpret drawings correctly, and can be trained to manage site ex*****on under senior guidance.

Radah Edifice Construction we lead by example, maintaining clear authority and accountability on site.
