APC to inaugurate Uba Sani-led Ekiti governorship campaign council on Wednesday
The All Progressives Congress (APC) will on Wednesday inaugurate its national campaign council for the forthcoming Ekiti state governorship election.
Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, said the inauguration is scheduled to take place at the Kashim Shettima Hall of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja at 12 noon.
The campaign council is chaired by Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio will serve as co-chairman. Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader, is the secretary.

Osun APC campaign council accuses Adeleke of using Amotekun operatives to guard family business
The Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign council has accused Ademola Adeleke, governor of the state, of deploying operatives of Amotekun to guard a family-owned business in Ondo.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Oluwole Oke, a member of the house of representatives and director-general of the campaign council, alleged that the enterprise — Pacific Energy Company, situated along the Benin-Ore road in Ondo — belongs to Deji Adeleke, the governor’s elder brother.

Opeyemi Bamidele: Senate to fast-track state police bill this week
Opeyemi Bamidele, the senate leader, says the upper legislative chamber will this week consider a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police in the country.
In a statement issued on Monday by his directorate of media and public affairs, Bamidele said the national assembly had resolved to separate the proposal from the broader constitutional amendment process to fast-track its passage.
The senate leader said there is a broad consensus among stakeholders on the need for state police.

Israel, Iran suspend strikes after Trump’s call for immediate ceasefire
Israel and Iran have announced a pause in hostilities less than 24 hours after both countries exchanged strikes despite a ceasefire in place.
The pause followed a call by US President Donald Trump on Monday asking both nations to end the strikes immediately.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the suspension of strikes in a video statement.

Gunmen abduct Akure north LGA worker, filling station attendant in Ondo
Gunmen have abducted Samson Gbenga Sanni, a staff member of Akure north LGA in Ondo state.
According to witnesses, Sanni, popularly known as ‘Timber’, was abducted at about 7:10pm on Sunday at his residence in the Agbelere area of the Ilu-Abo community in Akure north LGA.
He was reportedly seized and whisked away by three assailants in the presence of his wife and two children shortly after returning from work.

Tegbe: Decades-old challenges affecting power supply, they can’t be reversed in weeks
Joseph Tegbe, the newly inaugurated minister of power, says Nigerians should not expect an immediate turnaround in electricity supply due to decades-old challenges in the sector.
Speaking on Monday after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu at the state house in Abuja, Tegbe said the challenges cannot be resolved within months.
The minister said the federal government is implementing reforms across the electricity value chain and that improvements in power supply would continue to emerge gradually.

Kidnappers seek release of gang members, not N1bn or Sharia law, says abducted Ogbomoso principal
Rachael Alamu, the abducted principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire LGA, says the gunmen who kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers are neither demanding money nor calling for implementation of Sharia law as a condition for their release.
In a new video released on Monday, Alamu said their abductors are only demanding the release of some of their gang members who are in custody.
The abducted principal said those spreading claims that the abductors are demanding N1 billion and implementation of Sharia law are creating problems for the victims.
She added that since they have been in captivity, the abductors have not forced them to practice Islam or worhsip in any particular way.

39 Zamfara residents abducted during ‘reconciliation engagement with bandit kingpin’s parents
The Zamfara police command says 39 residents of the Magamin Diddi area of Maradun LGA have been abducted after visiting a bandit camp in the Fadama Forest on Sunday for what was described as “reconciliation and peaceful engagement”.
Yazid Abubakar, police spokesperson in Zamfara, said in a statement that the district head of Magamin Diddi informed the command that the mass abduction occurred on Sunday at about 3pm.
