Movie description: A man and his daughter offer aid and shelter to an injured woman at their remote house in the woods. They soon find themselves in a desperate fight for survival when a vicious drug lord and his henchmen come looking for her.

This movie poster connects strongly with the story by turning the film’s core conflict into a single, readable image.

The dominant close-up of the man’s wounded face immediately signals experience, protection, and consequence. His scars and hardened expression reflect a character who has lived through violence and is now forced back into it—not by choice, but by responsibility.

The forest blended into his portrait represents isolation and entrapment. It visually reinforces the remote setting where the story unfolds, a place meant to offer safety but instead becomes a hunting ground. What should be shelter turns into danger.

The armed figures positioned below communicate the shift from compassion to survival. They symbolize the moment the man and his daughter stop hiding and begin defending themselves. Their stance shows readiness, fear, and determination—matching the story’s escalation when the drug lord and his men arrive.

My solution: The broken, dusty background and warm, gritty tones reflect loss, trauma, and a world torn apart, mirroring Korpi’s life after his family is murdered. The dominant close-up of Korpi holding a weapon shows a man pushed to the edge, driven by grief and survival rather than glory.

The truck, motorcycles, explosions, and aircraft instantly communicate a relentless cross-country chase, reinforcing the idea that there is no safe place to hide. The moving vehicles symbolize Korpi’s attempt to escape and rebuild, while the fire and chaos represent the past that refuses to stay buried.

Do you know you can actually draw inspiration from AI to achieve interesting design composition? Recently I prompted it to create a movie poster design for me; here was the message I typed in the search bar.

“Create an African drama movie poster concept for a movie titled “The Preacher.” The movie is about a preacher who went to start a church in a village where the villagers have never heard about the ministry of Jesus. The villagers worship man-made gods. A little girl was supposed to be used as a sacrifice, and the preacher did not allow it. This made the ritualist and villagers turn their backs against the preacher and try to kill him and the girl. This poster should carry strong suspense with the use of fire and other elements that can draw attention.

The result from AI wasn’t bad (see slide 8), but I was expecting something minimalist with a powerful message; maybe it’s because I didn’t include “minimalist.” Guess what? The result from AI was what inspired my version of the artwork.

Breakdown:

Aside from the flame effect behind the preacher giving the project strong suspense, why we have it behind the preacher is to illustrate the preacher protecting the little girl from being attacked by what will make you go watch the movie.
