Governor Fubara Transforming Rumuigbo Neuropsychiatric Hospital into Modern Medical Hub

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is transforming the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, into a modern medical hub through an ongoing rehabilitation, expansion and reconstruction project.

The upgrade, which began in March 2024, is aimed at converting the old psychiatric facility into a modern neuropsychiatric treatment and rehabilitation centre that will also function as a General Hospital serving residents of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area and nearby communities.

When the first phase is completed, the hospital’s bed capacity will increase to 100, improving the state’s ability to care for patients with neuropsychiatric conditions.

The project includes the construction of a conference hall and ICT centre, 18 self-contained hostel units, 12 units of two-bedroom staff quarters, a drug storage facility, cafeteria, mini-supermarket, morgue and other support facilities.

The project is being executed by Monier Construction Company Nigeria Limited as part of the Rivers State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the state.

Health Budget Defence: Minister Canvasses Domestic Funding Of Mass Vaccines Programmes

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate has canvassed greater domestic funding of mass vaccination programmes, warning that over-reliance on donor support threatens long-term sustainability and national health security.

‎At the Ministry's budget defence before the House Committee on Healthcare Services, Ali Pate notes that health sector reforms by the Tinubu administration prompted international donors to sustain immunization coverage especially for infectious diseases.

‎In a similar development, some Medical Directors during their budget defence session, asked the Federal Government to subsidize treatment for orthopedic care and other specialty healthcare services which are cost intensive.

Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs Hands Over Nutritional Supplements In Sokoto

The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope drive to tackle severe malnutrition, particularly among Children in insecurity-affected Communities in the North-East and North-West.

Sokoto State Government, assured of transparent, equitable and accountable distribution of the items.

The Minister inspected the Paediatric Wards, where severely malnourished Children were receiving treatment, reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening nutrition support services across the Country.

Similar consignments would be delivered to nutrition Centres at Bodinga and Gwadabawa General Hospitals, he said.

BENUE POLICE REPELS ARMED ATTACK AT AWANSE, RESCUES ABDUCTED WOMAN

The Benue State Police Command has repelled an attack by suspected armed herdsmen at Awanse community in Kwande Local Government Area and rescued an abducted woman.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP EDET UDEME stated that the suspected armed herdsmen invaded Awanse Community firing sporadically, but police teams swiftly engaged the assailants and forced them to flee the area.

The abducted woman was rescued unhurt and no life was lost during the incident at Awanse as peace has been restored in the area.
Meanwhile, the Command has provided an update on the incident at Abende community, which occurred few days ago .

The statement says during sustained search and combing operations in the area, five (5) additional dead bodies were recovered, bringing the total number of fatalities in Abende community to ten (10).

The general security situation in the affected areas is presently calm, as intensive patrols, surveillance, and monitoring continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, Ifeanyi Emenari, assures the good people of the state of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and reiterates that all necessary operational measures are being sustained to prevent further attacks and bring perpetrators to justice.

7 PERSONS KILLED IN KANO CRASH, NOT 30 AS REPORTED

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified reports surrounding the recent road traffic crash in Kano State, confirming that seven (7) persons lost their lives in the incident, contrary to media reports claiming 30 fatalities.

In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, the Corps wishes to also state that the figure was established through on-the-spot assessment and verified rescue operations by its operatives, urging the public and media organisations to rely on officially confirmed information to avoid misinformation and undue public anxiety.

Preliminary investigation by the Corps attributed the cause of the crash to Speed Violation which eventually led to Loss of Control.

PETER OBI JOINS PROTESTERS AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Hundreds of protesters yesterday under the hashtag have besieged the main entrance of the National assembly.

Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters expressed displeasure over alleged tinkering with some provisions of the electoral act amendment bill and implementation of the new tax law.

Sighted among the protesters is the former Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The protesters were prevented from gaining access to the National assembly complex by security personnel.
