“If you have eye contact with something, even if it's somebody on a box, it looks more trustworthy, and it increases your likelihood to purchase things” - Brian Wansink (marketing professor at Cornell and director of the Food and Brand Lab)
I was reading an important case study about the power of pictures - how to grab attention with imagery. And I realized that it's vital I share little of what I got from my research.

Smartphones are technological marvels that entertain, let you work from any location, and keep you connected with friends, family, and coworkers. Unfortunately, finding the best mobile apps is a bit of a challenge.
There's a titanic quantity of apps to download from the Google Play or App Store, but which ones are worth their salt?
Which do you visit the most or "addicted" to?

We regularly find ourselves trying to validate our services or products we sell.
As a business, having a good range of testimonials and case studies to act as a portfolio for your business is a good way to communicate the way in which you deliver your customer experience.
So, what are your customers saying about your brand?

I designed this identity as a proposal for a Nigerian brand in 2019. Unfortunately, it was turned down. Discouraged, I had to delete it from all my social platforms.
But I very much understand the brand's point of view. The cost and implementation of changing identity of about 20 years could be a lot.
So, allow me to share my intellectual right with you as a case study to my design portfolio.

Allow me to be a bit controversial on this 😈 - I've been reading a lot of articles/books about businesses and they all seem to be saying the exact same thing in finding success in what you do - "Be an expert in one thing only"
But we never questioned this, especially for someone just starting out in a career path.
In a country like Nigeria, you will definitely need to put yourself into many things as you grow and earn a living, before your niche finds you.
The world has changed so being a master of more means your work has a chance to reach people. You don’t wait to be discovered; the power is in your hands. Holding good working knowledge of a lot of areas is desirable and those who hire you might feel like they have hit the jackpot.
BUT I WILL LIKE TO KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS PLEASE, COMMENT BELOW.

Several times, especially since COVID hits, I get emails like “My competitors are bringing down their prices. Should join them so I won’t lose clients?”
Whether you are a freelancer or an agency, competing on price often feels like a natural path to follow. It is always your first instinct in firing up sales! Humans always believe that dropping prices would attract more customers and boost the business.
BUT NEVER DO IT!
Whether You Reduce Your Price By 80%, There’s Always a Cheaper Option
BUT
Having a high price gives you a competitive advantage.
YES!
If you offer more value (rather than being salesy), you can be are more expensive than the competition and create better “network effects” in your business.

I know many will need this! Understanding the sales funnel can really be a needle in the haystack but let's break it down into the simplest of forms.
Let's say you run a campaign targeted to 100% of your real audience, you only 3% rate of conversion. I call this the "3% Percent Rule".
So if your marketing goal is to get 1000 buyers, then you need at least 33000 target audiences.
The most important thing is the richness of your offer and the more eyes you put into the buying process.
Hope this helps?

Let's answer the question - "Can You Do It For Free?". Almost every freelancers at one point in their life, has been asked to work for "EXPOSURE".
It could come as a request from friends or family. It could even be request from place of your worship, disguised as "Work For God".
I have no problem with working for "exposure", but I have a problem when you don't define priorities and limit to what you know your heart can't take.
At every stage of our lives, we grow up from who we were to who we are becoming. And there's something I learnt from one of YouTube videos....
There's a time when you will be in your PASSION STAGE - this is time when you are just starting out a career path and experimenting possibilities. At this stage, you are on the verge of "building portfolio" so it's a good idea to work for exposure, take as many free projects as you can handle.
But there's a time where you will be in your PURPOSE STAGE - you have a drive and a mission you're heading to. You know what you want at this stage and where you want to develop your expertise. You have people to impact and a community to build. And most importantly, you have bills to pay 😎
So don't let us be cajoled into doing things we don't appreciate. Let's know when we want to volunteer or when we don't want to.
What do you think about this?

If you read articles online about standing out online, most of what you get to see is around creating unique designs - which also works.
You will definitely see list like:
🔹Design a good Logo
🔹Be consistent with a Colour Palette
🔹Be consistent with a Typeface
🔹Niche Down
YES! They all work!
But what about the purpose of the brand?
Your BRAND IDENTITY and MESSAGING!

Check your social media feeds, Whatsapp status, stories, one thing is common - PEOPLE ARE SELLING TO PEOPLE.
But the real thing is, no one like to be sold to. Reason why top brands spend time and money in coming up with engaging and entertaining marketing campaigns.
That's why, psychologically, using the words "BUY" and "SELL" is a turn-off and sound salesy to many.
Rather
"SHOW" THEM THE VALUE YOU ARE BRINGING TO THEM.
"SHOW" THEM THE BENEFITS THEY STAND TO GAIN FROM YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE
For example : if you enter Oshodi or Yaba market (in Nigeria), your attention will be divided by hearing things like - "Come let me show you a cloth that suites your complexion" 😏
Nobody wants to buy clothes but rather want clothes that complement their complexion.
NOBODY CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU SELL,WE ALL WANT THE BENEFIT!
Hope you get?
Let me know what you think... 😎
