Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on five absent Manchester United players, after our win over West Ham United on Sunday.

The Reds recorded a 1-0 victory over the Hammers thanks to Craig Dawson’s second-half own goal. It was an excellent result against a side gunning for a place in the top four, but even more so, considering the Reds were missing so many key first-teamers.

With a huge week coming up for United, including cup games against AC Milan and Leicester City, Ole was asked whether he will be able to call upon any more players for the double-header.

WHAT DID OLE MAKE OF OUR WIN OVER WEST HAM?VIDEO
“We hope, we actually hope all five of them will be back,” the boss revealed. “David [De Gea] hopefully, Donny [van de Beek], Edinson [Cavani], Paul [Pogba] maybe, and Anthony [Martial] is very likely to be back. So a stronger squad to travel to Italy with.”

It’s a huge boost for the Reds, as we head into the second leg of our last-16 tie, following a 1-1 draw from the Old Trafford meeting earlier this week.

De Gea missed that match and our last four games, with the goalkeeper returning to Spain for the birth of his first child.

Prior to the game, Ole explained that David’s availability will be dependent on him passing a COVID-19 test after following the required protocols since his return to England.
Meanwhile, van de Beek has missed the majority of the last month with a muscle problem, while Pogba last played in the 3-3 draw with Everton on 6 February, due to a hamstring injury.

Cavani has missed the last three games with a minor knock and Martial was forced off at half-time in the first leg against Milan.

Should they all return to the team for the reverse meeting at the San Siro, it means that only Phil Jones and Juan Mata will be ruled out through injury.

Make sure to watch Ole’s pre-match press conference on Wednesday for another injury update on the five players.

The Red Devils are rated in this position in accordance to their performances in Europe over the past five seasons.
United make the top-10 ahead of the likes of Chelsea and last season’s Champions League finalists Tottenham.
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid & Barcelona make up the top 3.

Man United might not have enjoyed the most success in Europe over recent seasons, but they’re still held in a pretty good position in UEFA’s club rankings.

In the association’s coefficient rankings of the top clubs in Europe – calculated on the results of each club competing in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League over the last 5 seasons – United are ranked in 9th position.

They are placed higher than Premier League rivals Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. The Europa League win in 2017 and qualifying for the quarter-finals last season must’ve played a big part in earning the Red Devils a respectable position in this rankings.

Only Manchester City and Liverpool are ranked higher than United in this. Real Madrid are ranked as the No.1 team in Europe by UEFA, while Atletico Madrid and Barcelona follow them to fill up the top-3.

Of course, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has the golden opportunity to improve their coefficient ranking by winning the UEFA Europa League this season. The Red Devils will travel to Germany to finish their Europa League campaign in a two-week-long single-legged tournament in August.

United ‘ready to accelerate interest’ in Leon Bailey as potential Sancho alternative
3 hours ago , Uttiyo Sarkar
The Red Devils have been impressed with his performances for Bayer Leverkusen over the last week.
Now United are reportedly ready to take a step forward in negotiating a deal for him.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the skilful winger.

Man United are taking serious interest in grooming Leon Bailey as a possible alternative to Jadon Sancho in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, a tier-two source, the Red Devils are ready to accelerate their interest in him after watching him excel against FC Koln in mid-week. Bailey delivered two assists in 3-1 win over the Bundesliga side on Wednesday, something which caught United’s attention.

They are now reportedly ready to step up their chase but will face competition for him, with Chelsea and Manchester City also said to be interested. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were reported to be lining up a £40m bid for Bailey recently and might be moving towards that after watching the winger’s recent performances.

Bailey is probably being monitored just in case the Sancho deal falls through. With Borussia Dortmund not ready to sell him for anything less than €100m, United are perhaps keeping their options open.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger has scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this season and could be a good fit to United with his silky style.

Impressive record against Chelsea and 3 other strong reasons why United should beat the Blues

58 minutes ago , Georgy Tsepkovskiy
The Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge on Monday and here's why they will be the better team against Chelsea.
The league streak

Manchester United are undefeated against Chelsea in the Premier League since November 2017, when Jose Mourinho's men lost 1-0 to Antonio Conte's side at Stamford Bridge.

Bruno settling in

With the Spain warm-weather training camp under his belt, Bruno Fernandes will be looking to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Closing the gap

A win against the Blues will allow the Red Devils to reduce the top 4 gap to just three points ahead of the crucial run of fixtures.

United's big-game record

Man United have typically done well in big Premier League games this season, securing positive results against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham.

The Scot has been sidelined since the end of December.
The ex-United striker agrees that McTominay was a very important player before his injury.
However, both Fred and Matic have been very impressive in his absence.
Nemanja Matic and Fred have coped quite well in the absence of Scott McTominay in the midfield, ex-Man United star Andy Cole argues.

"They have missed him getting around the park," the former striker said about the Scotland international.

"But take nothing away from the boys playing in the midfield at the moment. Fred has been absolutely fantastic. He has got used to the Premier League, he knows what it’s all about now and has been really, really good.

"And [Nemanja] Matic, he has been really good as well. He is getting around the park now and doing what he’s good at."

Scott McTominay has been sidelined since the end of December when he was forced off the pitch against Newcastle.

He's missed 11 games with a knee injury and is not expected to return against Chelsea on Monday night. The Scot joined the team for their mid-season training camp in Spain, though, which gives the fans some hope.

Michael Carrick lists Bruno Fernandes' most impressive qualities - after just one game

9 hours ago , Michail Shalashov
The Man United newcomer has fit very well in the team, our assistant manager explains.
The Portuguese is very impressive on the ball, he can pass and he can score.
Carrick emphasizes Bruno's game intelligence and composure.
Man United assistant manager Michael Carrick has been immensely impressed by the way Bruno Fernandes has blended into the squad.

The training camp in Spain has likely helped, as the Portugal international did not have to deal with the British weather while making the impression at his teammates and coaching staff.

"Yeah, he feels at home in this weather!" Carrick told MUTV. "It’s what he’s used to, but yeah he’s settled in really well. He’s an intelligent, smart lad and speaks great English so it’s been pretty seamless so far. There’s plenty of Portuguese-speaking [players] anyway.

"But he’s fine, he’s settled in really well and he’ll just be looking to get games under his belt now and improve as time goes on."

Naturally, Carrick was then asked what impresses his about Bruno football-wise.

"There’s so much to talk about, really," our former midfielder responded. "I think the main thing is his composure and quality on the ball. He sees a pass, he looks to play the pass and he can score goals.

"But it’s more that composure, understanding of the game and game intelligence really that I like the most about him, and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of that.”

So far, Bruno has only played one game for United after completing a long-awaited transfer in January. Nevertheless, he has already been very positively rated by the fans, and even our next opponents, Chelsea, are sure to pay close attention to the 25-year-old.

Fred: 'We need to improve as a group, we have a lot of inner problems'

56 minutes ago , Grigory Egorov
As per the Brazilian, United are lacking too much right now.
On the pitch, it's creativity while off the pitch it's the sticking together mentality.
Some players want to solve problems on their own which is wrong, the midfielder explains.
Manchester United have not had a great season so far. Fred has opened up on the Reds' main issues at the moment.

"We are lacking too much right now, first of all, we need to figure out things inside of pitch, we are lacking creativity, especially in midfield," the 26-year-old told De Sola.

"We need to improve also as a group, our group lacks the 'sticking together mentality', we have a lot of inner problems. There are a lot of discussions, well, every group has this sort of problem, but ours has a lot!

"Vanity is also an issue and we need to stop this and just run inside the pitch! We need to stick an objective inside of our heads and focus on it and go forward.

"We need to be on the same page and today some players are differing in objectives, there are players that just want to solve problems alone and this is wrong."

Indeed, this campaign is a tough one for United. Since the beginning of December, the Reds have won 5 of their 12 Premier League clashes, losing 4 and drawing the rest 3.

Most recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's crew drew 0-0 against Wolverhampton at Old Trafford on the Premier League Matchday 25 last Saturday.

With 35 points after 25 fixtures, United crew are currently seventh in the standings, one point behind Sheffield United, 2 points behind Tottenham, 6 behind Chelsea, who are fourth at the moment, and 38 behind runaway leaders Liverpool.
