The biggest mistake that kept me stuck as a brand specialist
I thought my brand had to be โfor everyone.โ
So I tried to design in every style.
I tried to please every type of client.
I watered down my message so nobody felt left out.
Hereโs the truth I discovered ๐
โ When you try to be for everyone, you become for no one.
โ The wrong audience will drain you.
โ The right audience will pay, stay, and refer you.
The day I stopped chasing โeverybodyโ and started focusing on intentional creators & professionalsโฆ everything changed.
My positioning became sharper.
My storytelling became simpler.
My results became stronger.
Your brand is not for everyone.
The day you accept that โ your real growth begins.
So hereโs my question to you ๐
Who exactly is your brand for?

WIP ๐ฅ
You know that feeling when a client has tried multiple designs elsewhere, gotten frustrated, and is almost giving up hope? Yeahโฆ that was the case here.
He told me: โIโve seen different versions, none felt right.โ
And honestly, I love situations like that -- because it pushes me to dig deeper.
So I did what I always do: research. I donโt just open CorelDRAW or Illustrator and start dragging shapes. I study. I ask:
What does the brand stand for?
What emotions should it give off?
How do we make it memorable?
Thatโs how the icon came alive -- a blend of a house silhouette and a shield form.
Haven = home + protection. Simple, but powerful.
The color choice wasnโt random either. Green = growth, stability, wealth. Yellow = warmth, optimism, light. Put them together, and you get a brand that feels safe but also welcoming.
And the best part? First draft. He loved it immediately. No back and forth. No โhmm, can you tweak this?โ -- just: โYes, this is it.โ
For me, thatโs the win. Not just making a โfine logo,โ but crafting something that actually feels like the brand.
Iโm grateful for every project like this. And if youโre building something new (or rebranding), letโs make sure your identity tells the right story too.

In every corner of Lagos, youโll find local mallam stalls and neighborhood kiosks.
They sell essentials - rice, oil, bread, soap, brush, snacks - but if you look closely, youโll notice one thing: no clear name, no colors, no signage, no consistency.
One day itโs โAbu Provision,โ tomorrow itโs โBlessing Stores,โ next month itโs painted over by a cousinโs football jersey design.
Now enter Bokku Mart - a brand that, just three years ago, was another neighborhood grocery store.
But they made one smart decision:
Suddenly, Bokku wasnโt just another roadside grocery store, they became trusted.
Locals who might skip Shoprite or SPAR because of distance or pricing saw Bokku as a closer, familiar alternative, with the same reliability.
They werenโt the cheapest; they werenโt the biggest; but they were consistent, and that won hearts and wallets fast.
Most local retailers in Nigeria make the dangerous branding mistake of thinking, โItโs just a shop, I donโt need a brand.โ
But a scattered, inconsistent look confuses customers and kills loyalty.
Bokku understood this early - and thatโs why theyโve trumped older players and even carved space beside giants like Shoprite.

A few months before the Grama Conference 5.0, I got the opportunity to lead the entire brand design for the event. From that moment, I knew I wanted to do more than just create beautiful designs - I wanted to craft an experience people would remember โบ๏ธ .
I started by designing everything the conference would need - from the event backdrop and photostand banners to the customised tags for participants, panellists, facilitators, the host, keynote speaker, and the entire CX team. Every detail mattered, and I poured my heart into making sure the visuals reflected the energy, professionalism, and vision of the event.
As the conference drew closer โณ, my involvement deepened. I wasnโt just thinking like a designer anymore - I was thinking like a partner in its success ๐ค.
In the weeks leading up to the event, I worked closely with the organisers to make sure all designs were printed, delivered, and set up perfectly โ
.
Even in the final days, I was fine-tuning the slides and polishing the event deck that would later run live on-screen
On the day of the event ๐, I wasn't just relaxed. Wherever I saw a need, I stepped in - because thatโs who I am: someone who takes initiative, solves problems, and gives everything to the task ๐ช๐ฝ.
At the end of the day, I was honoured with an award ๐ for my contribution to the success of the conference. That moment touched me deeply - not just because of the recognition, but because it reminded me why I love what I do so much๐ฅน .
Since then, Iโve had potential clients reach out after seeing the work I did, opening up new doors and new opportunities ๐. And honestly? Iโm just getting started.
To every creative reading this: donโt just wait to be told what to do. Think bigger. Be proactive. Show up fully - because people notice, and your impact matters๐ฅ.
If you or someone you know is organising an event, Iโm open for event branding gigs - especially for conferences, community gatherings, and projects that deserve to shine๐โจ. Letโs work together!

CRISPY BURGER FRIDAY ๐
The content of the slides is inspired by popular food brands' promotional posters shared online or on billboards to advertise their products. We are all familiar with this type of content.
Which slide do you like the best from 1 to 6? Share your opinion in the comment section below.
I hope you're not fasting anyway ๐
