THE ANCESTORS OF MUHAMMAD, THE NOBLE LINEAGE

CHAPTER THREE

It happened that “after Ishmael's mother had died, Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) came after Ismail’s marriage in order to see his family that he had left before but he did not find Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) there. When he asked Ismail’s wife, Amarah about him, she replied; “He has gone in search of livelihood.” Then he asked her about their way of living and their condition, and she replied; “We are living in misery, we are living in hardship and destitution” Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said; “When your husband returns, convey my salutations to him and tell him to change the threshold of the gate (of his house).”
When Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife; “Has anyone visited you?” She replied; “Yes, an old man of such and such description came and asked me about you and I informed him and he asked about our state of living and I told him that we were living in a hardship and poverty." On that Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said; “Did he advise you anything?” She said; “Yes he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate.” Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said; “It was my father and he has ordered me to divorce you. Go back to your family.” So, Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) divorced her and married Halia, another woman from among them (Jurhum).

Then Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them again but did not find Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām). So he came to Ismail’s wife and asked her about Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām). She said; “He (Ismail) has gone in search of our livelihood.” Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) asked her; “How are you getting on?” asking her about their sustenance and living. She replied; “We are prosperous and well off (we have everything in abundance).” Then she thanked Allah. Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said; “What kind of food do you eat?” She said; “meat.” Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said: “what do you drink?” She said; “water.” He said; “O Allah! bless their meat and water."

The Prophet Mohammad (salla-Llahu alaehi wa sallam) said; “At that time they did not have grain, and if they had grain, he would have also invoked Allah to bless it. If somebody has only these two things as his sustenance, his health and disposition will be badly affected unless he lives in Makkah.”

“Then Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said to Ismail’s wife; “When your husband comes, give my regards to him and tell him that he should keep firm the threshold of his gate.” When Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) came back, he asked his wife; “Did anyone call on you?” She replied; “yes, a good looking old man came to me,” so she praised him and added; “He asked about you and I informed him that we were in a good condition.” Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) asked her; “Did he give you any piece of advice?” She said; “Yes, he told me to give his regards to you and ordered that you should keep firm the threshold of your gate.” On that Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) said; “He was my father, and you are the threshold of the gate. He has ordered me to keep you with me.”

Then Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them afterwards. He saw Ismail (Alaehis-solāt was-salām) under a tree near Zam-Zam, sharpening his arrows......

Here we go, the best of mankind, the most honoured of the messengers, the seal of prophethood, Muhammad (Salla-Llahu Alaehi wa sallam) is the son of Abdullah, Abdullah the son of AbdulMuttalib, AbdulMuttalib the son of Hāshim, Hāshim the son of AbduManaf, AbduManaf the son of Qusayy, Qusayy the son of Kilāb, Kilāb the son of Murrah, Murrah the son of Ka'b, Ka'b the son of Luayy, Luayy the son of Gālib, Gālib the son of Fih'r, Fih'r the son of Malik, Malik the son of Nadar, Nadar the son of Kināna, Kināna the son of Khuzaima, Khuzaima the son of Mudraka, Mudraka the son of Ilyas, Ilyas the son of Mudarr, Mudarr the son of Nizār, Nizār the son of Ma’d, Ma'd the son of Adnān. And Adnān is a descendant of Ismail, the son of Ibrahim (Alaehimas-solāt was-salām)
This lineage placed Muhammad (Salla-Llahu Alaehi wa sallam) in the offsprings of Ibrahim (Alaehi salam). Hence, the noble lineage of Muhammad (Salla-Llahu Alaehi wa sallam) started with Ibrahim (Alaehis-solāt was-salām), the prophet of Allah and the most loved by Him. From him, we will start our narration, join us as we journey through the history of the ancestors of the prophet Muhammad, salla-Llahu alaehi wa sallam.
