UNITED NON INDIGENE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

01/03/2023

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED NONINDIGENES DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION, LAGOS: OVER ACTS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST ITS MEMBERS ON THE 25TH AND THE 26TH OF FEBRUARY, 2023 IN LAGOS.

Today the 26th day of February 2023, I received with intense angst, the totally unnecessary and unfortunate news about the attack of our Ibo members at different markets in Lagos and the looting or torching of their shops and or business places by persons who personify the vestiges of the sorry and dark chapters of ethnic intolerance and brigandage only reminiscent of early independence loss of electoral expectations.

The duty by all Lagosians to sustain an atmosphere of mutual tolerance and peaceful co-existence within civil norms cannot be emphasized at a better time in the life of the Nation and the State than this election season.

Today's sad incidences came hot on the heels of selective acts of intimidation, actual violence and.disenfranchisement of our members during the hours of voting, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Our members were targeted, profiled and victimized ostensibly.by the same enemies of civil society, who pepertrated today's acts of unprovoked aggression against our Ibo members.

UNIDA condemns in it's totality, these unfortunate acts of schematic violence against our members and demands an immediate stop to it.

We call on the Lagos State Government and all law enforcement agencies, to rise to the occasion to stem and prevent any further acts of premeditated and unprovoked violence against our members now or as a fall out of subsequent elections.

The imperatives for the peace and continued mutual co-existence of all Lagosians, demand from all of us, restraint from recourse to ventilate grievances or agitations through unlawful means.

We appeal to all of our members who have been directly victimized, to exercise restraint and desist from any acts of self help.

The undersigned is reachable on the following mobile telephone lines, to collate and channelize your claims to the appropriate authorities: 08093930139 and 08084875545.

The peace, orderliness and development of Lagos State, is our collective responsibility.

UNIDA: anywhere in Nigeria is home!!!
