*DETAILS OF TEACHING*
The further scripture reading for the ninth part of this piece published on Friday, February 21, 2025 was Isaiah 10:27 which says, *“And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”* The point has been drawn several times from this verse of scripture that *“his yoke from off thy neck”* makes us understand that the owner of the neck is not the owner of the yoke that is upon his neck. So, the yoke is placed by the adversary.

Nevertheless, there are yokes that are not ours; they are on our necks and yet they were not placed by the adversary, neither were they placed by God. They were placed by us on our own necks. These self-laden yokes include uncertainties of life, anxieties over situations confronting us and the fear and worries of what tomorrow may bring. These are psychological and emotional things that have weighed some people down up to, in some situations, building into depression and su***de.

We are charged in the lead scriptural reference for the devotional of today to learn to thrust these things upon the shoulders of the Lord, rather than on our own shoulders. As it is written in First Peter 5:7, *“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”* New Living Translation (NLT) puts this verse like this, *“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you.”* Then, The Living Bible (TLB) says, *“Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.”*

It is important to identify the area in which we have cast burdens upon our own shoulders and yokes upon our own necks. Are we holding unto fears that do not belong to us? Are we overwhelmed by expectations from others? We need to take a moment to reflect on what is weighing us down and know how to look up to God in faith to take the weight and pressure of such off our lives.

*DETAILS OF TEACHING*
There have been several stories of people who, in their moments of need, were dedicated to God. They wouldn’t miss any worship service; neither would they miss any assignment that was given to them in any service. Once they get their testimony, however, they become busy, hardly having any time for God or His work anymore. Examples include getting a contract or a job which eventually became the only engaging all of the person’s time, including times of worship and kingdom work.

In First Chronicles 16:34, David charged the people saying, *“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.”* The phrase *“endureth for ever”* is one of the most often repeated in scriptures in describing the qualities, virtues and works of Jehovah God. Of course, this is because He Himself endures forever. And all He does is meant to endure forever. His blessings upon our lives are supposed to endure for ever and be in their fullness.

Unfortunately, man often truncates by himself the plan of God for him. Those that will retain the flow of God’s blessings in their lives must have complete faith and trust in Him. The Bible declares in Hebrews 11:6, *“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”* Then we are charged in Proverbs, *“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding”* (Proverbs 3:5).

*DETAILS OF TEACHING*
One of the proverbs narrated by Master Jesus, as chronicled in the Gospel of St. Matthew, featured two servants. Appropriating the situation to our contemporary day, we can say that one servant was indebted to the king to the tune of ten thousand Naira. He didn’t have the financial capacity to defray his debt. So, he begged the king profusely to forgive him his debt and the king, in his magnanimity, decided to write off the debt.

After he had left the king’s palace, he ran into one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred Naira and demanded that he paid his debt. Matthew 18:28 says in this regard, *“But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.”* The plea of his co-servant to give him some time to settle his debt fell on deaf ears. Matthew 18:30 says, *“And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.”*

The lead scriptural reference for the devotional of today is Matthew 18:34 which says, *“And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.”* This was the verdict of the king on the unforgiving servant after the report got to him that he had thrown his fellow servant into prison for owing him a pittance compared to what he owed the king and which was forgiven him.

Unforgiving spirit is another stopper of the flow of divine blessings, as we see in this parable of the Lord. The unforgiving servant in the story Jesus discussed here already had the blessing of the Lord as his debt was overwritten by the king. But his refusal to forgive his neighbor occasioned the cancellation of the pardon he had already obtained; and that led to the discontinuation of the blessing he had already received.

There has always been a great misconception about the blessings of God. Ordinarily, anyone that talks about the blessings of God is deemed to be talking about financial prosperity, property acquisition and other forms of material blessing. Yes, these are all blessings which nothing is in any way wrong with. Nevertheless, there are blessings that are greater than these. Such greater blessings are intangible, invisible.

By his encounter with God in man on earth, that is Jesus Christ, a young man was apparently predestinated to be divinely blessed. The young man crossed paths with the Master and asked Him what he should do to have eternal life, that is, to receive blessings that would last in all eternity. The Master gave him a simple recipe to an everlasting relationship with the eternal King, but he found it too difficult apply.

No! It was a test of the state of his heart vis-à-vis his claim that he had kept all the basic commandments from his youth.

An excerpt from the Family Bible Notes (FBN) commentary on this verse says, _“The Saviour, by this command, lays his hand immediately upon the faulty spot in his character, and points it out to him.”_ Very many have lost or upturned their divine blessings by failing to heed simple demands or commands from God through either His word or His servants. Has God asked you to do something or take any step? What have you done about it?
