I just had a spark of memory. Milagros Creative is hosting a Creative Writing Competition this November!

I made a discovery last night during our session at Milagros Gist & Grow.

The sessions have always been good, but yesterday felt different, I experienced something rare, something I only feel in special places.

I felt at home.

It was that warm, freeing feeling you get when you walk into your house, take off your shoes, drop your formal clothes, and just be yourself, comfortable, accepted, and safe from judgment. That’s exactly how I felt.

At one point, I even forgot I was representing a professional company because the atmosphere was so genuine and liberating.

Then it hit me, this is the effect our group has on people. It made me truly happy. I could see it made others happy too, judging from their smiles and reactions.

I’m deeply grateful because I can see that God has truly answered a prayer.
We have something real, a family, a community that writes together, grows together, dances together, and nurtures people without judgment.

I’m proud to have created this space, be part of it, and you should be too.

Last week I was really sick. So sick that I had to step back from almost everything.

I still attended MGG sessions. But right after each one, I'd head straight to bed.

Even in that state, one thought never left my mind: I wanted to get back to work.

That was all I could think about.

I missed Milagros, and every chance I got, I'd take a quick glance at her.

At some point, I found myself wondering. "When did I get this committed to my baby?" Or better still, "When did I love working so much that people around me now beg me to rest?"

Honestly, I don't know.
I just remember falling in love with a skill and career path, and giving it everything I have.

Now, I truly understand the phrase, "When you love what you do".

I'm happy to be back, healthier at least. Now let's face this Competition!

I was scared.

Do it scared, just do it!

This is advice I’ve given to others, and one I’ve had to remind myself of many times.

I’ve applied this principle in different areas of my life, but this time, it feels harder.

Today, I have a very important announcement to make, and honestly, I’m scared to my bones.

The thoughts keep coming: "What if no one signs up?" "What if I don’t meet my target?" "What if they don’t take it seriously?"

But I’ve done my part, and whatever the outcome, I’ll thank God for it.

I’ll do it scared, because God never fails.

I’ll be honest, I’m both excited and a little nervous about what’s coming tomorrow.

My oh my.

I don't remember planning a competition ever being this stressful.

Maybe it's because it's been a while since the last one, or maybe it's just because there's so much to do.

Either way, it's a lot of work and anything that takes this much effort to plan is surely going to be worth it.

Last night, at Milagros Gist and Grow we discussed one of the challenges writers face.

The question was:
"What’s the strangest excuse you’ve ever used for not writing? Did you regret it? Would you give that excuse again? And what would you do differently knowing what you know now?"

This question opened up so many interesting conversations. My favourite part was seeing how other creatives, facing the same struggles, are learning to overcome them.

I was thrilled last night.
Why?
Because impacts were made, and lessons were learned. For an observant writer, it's one step forward.

I’m so grateful for the idea of this community. It’s a space where dreams are nurtured and creativity grows.
