5 Keys To Unlocking The Secret To A Successful Online Business.

The Way People Look At Online Business.

Many people start an online business, or any small business that doesn't require a huge amount of start-up capital, and then just... give up! What's worse, they blame the business model saying, "Oh, that thing doesn't work".

What's really funny to me is that a lot of people lump an online business into the likes of network marketing, or multi-level marketing models, which is distinctly not true at all!
It's just their ignorance of the subject showing!

My mentor and online marketing expert say there are primarily 5 keys needed to create a sustainable online business.
So What Are the 5 Keys To Unlocking the Secret To A Successful Online Business?

Key #1: It's A Business Not A Hobby.

You must differentiate between earning a living online and making money online. Earning a sustainable income involves learning the business of how to provide more value to people online, whereas making money online involves chasing the "new thing" to hit town, or that get rich quick scheme your neighbour is doing. You know, that deal that says, "You can become a millionaire for $99.95!" Generally, opportunity seekers.

It's important to learn the skills required to build and operate a successful business. It's like the difference between flying a simulated plane program and flying a real plane. You wouldn't expect to jump into a real plane and just.. fly... would you? Of course not! You need to learn how to fly a plane successfully, from an expert!

Why would you expect to just "know" how to build a profitable online business? You need to learn from someone, preferably an expert! Always choose to learn from someone who is experiencing the success you want. Never from someone who just teaches theory.

Key #2: Be Prepared To Take Action And Get Started

No experience is necessary to start learning how to build an online business. You really just need to be teachable!
There is no age requirement. In fact, the average age of students in one cutting edge online business training platform is 48. There are students ranging from 16 through 75.
The only thing really required is that you have a strong work ethic and a big dream.

A great business training program should consist of plug and play style training modules, including a personal success blueprint.
You should be able to work in these modules at your own pace and have access to live and recorded training workshops.
The best advice is to use the 80/20 rule for training.
You should spend 20% of your time learning and 80% of your time applying that knowledge.

Too many people can get stuck in training mode and never take a step into action. Also called, "Information Constipation".
Not using the 80/20 rule leads to overwhelm, and overwhelm doesn't lead to action.

Key #3: Provide Proper Value.

In order for you to stand out, and not be mistaken for one of those less than authentic individuals that you can find online, or anywhere really, you need to provide value, the real value to your prospective customers.

When you provide real value to people you don't have to talk them into anything using phoney language. Just be yourself, be genuine.
The real value consists of providing the tools and information your prospects need to help them make an informed decision and improve their life.

Key #4: Learn How To Drive Traffic.

Many folks believe that if you build it (a slick website) they will come (people by the dozens!). Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
A new website is like a new boutique tucked away in a dark little part of town that nobody knows is there.

You have to learn how to "drive traffic" to your website. This is the "meat" of any good business training and is the cornerstone of an online business. No traffic = no sales

Key #5: Learn How To Convert The Traffic.

Learning how to convert traffic is about providing the right offer.
Providing the right offer is about solving your prospective customer's problem.

We all have a problem, (some of us way more than one!) something that keeps you awake at night, or that you tend to worry about.
It could be mounting medical bills, or the fear of illness and how it could impact your life, the job market & job security, sending kids to school, helping ageing parents, not enough retirement income, and the list goes on... and on.

Part of the education process is learning about people, how to communicate, and how to help them solve their problems, along with the process of buying.

Side note: The beauty of developing an online business is that you can sell your own products or somebody else's products as an affiliate marketer. Or, with the right guidance and education, you could discover what you are really passionate about and build a business around it. It really is possible for anyone to build an online passion business.

I would add one more key to these 5.

I would add that you have to want to help people. If you are only interested in making money you will be building your business on shifting sand rather than a solid foundation.

Not that there is anything wrong with making money, but it shouldn't be the primary reason to be an entrepreneur.

Reasons Why Starting an Online Business Is a Great Idea!

There are several reasons why starting an online business is a great idea for anyone that wants to have more freedom and wealth. Here are five reasons why I encourage entrepreneurs to start an online business.

1. Not every idea we come up with is going to become a winner and make money

New businesses are started every day and only a few become successful. In the event that the business does crash and burn it is easier to bounce back without all of the financial responsibilities that you would have in a traditional business. I myself started an online business for N62,500 by purchasing a franchise with an already existing online business. This was great because I didn't have to create anything and to this day it's my main source of income.

2. Residual income and Advantages

The right business can be developed into a stable, residual source of income. In fact, there are plenty of ways to create online businesses that make six figures yearly. Imagine if you could spend your spare time learning how to create successful online businesses, resulting in several income-producing assets that will continue to earn money while you are out playing golf or on vacation with the family.
Remember that business has changed. The way people are making money is changing. Old ways won't open new doors. Starting an online business today will give you a running start in the new economy.

3. No disadvantages and faster personal growth.

The rules of business don't adjust based on age, a business owner in their mid-60s has the same risks and responsibilities that someone in their early 20s has.
Running a business introduces you to many life lessons, and being introduced to them at an early age will allow developing into a more balanced person a lot sooner.

4. Ability to work from anywhere in the world.

Having an online business will allow you to work from wherever you want in the world. All you need is a laptop or smartphone with internet access. You can start your day when you feel you are ready and work as much or as little as you want.
The work won't be any easier on a beach in Mexico than it would be in an apartment in Paris, and you will still have the same battles and challenges that every entrepreneur faces, but the option to do it from any location or while travelling is real.

5. Less risk and little financial commitment to start.

Before the Internet, it was very difficult for just anyone to start a profitable business. Credit cards, Bank loans, and lines of credit weren't easy to get and still aren't for everyone.
An online business for the most part has lower overhead when compared to an offline traditional construction business, translating into less of a financial commitment. This allows anyone to be able to start a profitable online business. The only variable is your commitment to making it happen.

Are You Ready To Face The Hard Truth?
Affiliate marketing is a great way to start an online business. Many successful online business owners have used affiliate marketing to launch their online businesses. After achieving a certain level of success, they specialize in their interests and start other businesses.
I know of affiliate marketers who have achieved high incomes; however, even though it may be a great way to get started this should not be assumed it is easy.
Affiliate marketing is not easy, although you can find mentors who will help and guide you so you can prevent making mistakes, which in itself will accelerate your learning curve. However, there is still going to be a learning curve and a lot of work.
One of the biggest misconceptions I believe out there in starting a business online is, 'people set up an affiliate program or website and then sit back and expect the money to roll in.'
Although to most this seems ludicrous. Yes, you will be correct in thinking that this type of thinking is ludicrous, people are still doing it, and subconsciously this is precisely how they think.
They set up their affiliate program, website or blog, then start doing excellent work. As the results aren't quick enough, they become distracted by the next big thing or stop believing that this business they have just started will work.
There are good reasons for people to have this behaviour and belief system. The internet business opportunities have taught people for years about money-making opportunities and get rich quick schemes that have littered the internet since time began, (online that is).
Making money online it's easy, sit back and watch the money roll in, earn millions while sleeping or working ten minutes - all these tag lines.
These taglines are correct, but only after a lot of work has been done to set this business up to be at a stage where you will be making money in your sleep, etc.
The reality is, if you want to start a business online, start making money online - you are going to have to put in a lot of work. Yes, you read correctly. You are going to have to put in a lot of work. Let's face it. You are starting a business. Especially in beginning a business, you are going to have to do a lot of work to get it up and running.
There is going to have to be an investment. This investment would either be time, money or a combination of both. Just remember you are starting a business. Starting by not investing a lot of money - you would need to spend a lot of time. The reverse is true. The best option in my experience and from the mentors I follow is a little of both - time and money.
Good mentors will help and guide along the process, saving a lot of hassle, time and financial waste. However, you will need to be able to find these mentors, which could be difficult enough with every other website promising the world on a push button get rich quick scheme.
I am thankful for being introduced to my mentor and have not looked back. When I met him, he told me I was going to have to do a lot of work. He didn't shy away from this fact. I will have to put in the time. He also told me very clearly that I will have to invest some money.
After all, I am starting a business, and these are two aspects many don't mention or want to hear. The result is they get caught out and lose interest or end up losing money, wasting a whole lot of time only to have nothing to show for it. Therefore in the process, their confidence in any future online business is in tatters.
So if you can be honest with yourself, you admit that you are going to have to put in some real work and invest some money. If you understand this simple point, you already have an advantage over most people who start online.
Surprisingly today, people are still looking for that golden egg or easy money.
No, it is not all doom and gloom. Although I don't think that what I have just shared are doom and gloom, instead it should be a breath of fresh air and should fill you with excitement as I have just told you that if you are willing to put in the work and invest some money and stick with it, you will be successful.
Now mentors like mine who have genuinely been successful in the area that they teach and have a passion for teaching others are invaluable to people who want to start a business online. You will be able to learn how to do things the right way rather than have to figure it out yourself. They will have developed processes and tools that they pass on to speed up the process and help build, once again, you don't have to improve. However, more importantly, they will be able to guide and mentor you and invite you into the community they have created where people are helping each other to achieve their online business goals.
Let's admit it the first time you mentioned that you were starting an online business to your closest and dearest, To be honest, they were probably not that supportive and filled with excitement. Now that alone is one step closer to defeat for your online business dreams.
