The most important meeting in the African history took place without an African ruler, an African kingdom and an African states, yet this meeting has shaped our lives today as Africans.
The story of FIFA World Cup during the World War era and how global conflict changed football history.
Before modern calendars, many African societies measured time through seasons, harvests, and market days. Time was not just counted, it was lived. Happy New Week, Africa.
In 1966, Africa walked away from the FIFA World Cup in protest. That decision changed football history.

An African brother, representing Mexico, scored the first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against South Africa.
There is an African proverb that says:
“The child who is not tall enough to see beyond the wall of his father’s compound must remember that there are many other compounds beyond it, he is not just tall enough to see it.”
To our Southern African brothers, this is a gentle reminder that Africa’s children are everywhere. Some are in the Caribbean, some in the Americas, some in Europe, and some in Asia. Their roots are African, and their achievements belong to a story much larger than any border.
Perhaps the lesson is this: before judging who belongs, we should remember that the African family is bigger than what we can see from our own compound.
Africa’s strength has always been in her people, wherever they may be.
In 1974, DR Congo became the first Sub-Saharan African nation to reach the World Cup.
A country rich in the minerals that power modern technology.
A nation with immense potential.
So what happened to Africa’s sleeping giant?
Where are you watching the FIFA WORLD CUP from?

Someone posted this and I had to share it. You guys are not nice. I thought we all agreed to forgive our South African brothers? As a South African we tried to represent the continent in that game.🫢❤️🩹🤣
