EPISODE 2 : What Happened To Julie "disclaimer " this is work of fiction.

FADE IN:

INT. SMALL APARTMENT - DAY

JACK, a disheveled man in his mid-thirties, wakes up on his lumpy couch. He rubs his eyes and looks around the small, cluttered apartment. Beer cans and empty takeout containers are scattered on the floor.

JACK:
(to himself)
Another day in paradise.

He gets up and shuffles over to the kitchenette. He opens the fridge and stares at the empty shelves.

JACK:
(disappointed)
Great. Nothing to eat.

He grabs his jacket and heads out the door.

EXT. CITY STREET - DAY

Jack walks down the street, his head down, lost in thought. He comes across a group of teenagers playing basketball. They notice him and start to jeer.

TEENAGER:
(laughing)
Look at this guy! What a loser!

Jack keeps walking, trying to ignore them.

TEENAGER 2:
(mocking)
What's the matter, buddy? Can't afford a real apartment?

Jack stops and turns to face them.

JACK:
(angrily)
Shut up, you little punks!

The teenagers laugh and continue to taunt him. Jack takes a swing at one of them, but misses.

TEENAGER 3:
(sarcastically)
Nice try, grandpa.

Jack backs away, feeling embarrassed and frustrated.

INT. LIBRARY - DAY

Jack enters the library and sits down at a computer. He starts searching for job openings, but finds nothing.

JACK:
(to himself)
What am I going to do?

He looks around the library and notices a flyer for a local theater production. He hesitates for a moment, then takes the flyer and walks out.

EXT. CITY STREET - DAY

Jack walks down the street, looking at the flyer.

JACK:
(to himself)
I used to be in plays in high school. Maybe I could audition.

He stops in front of the theater and takes a deep breath.

INT. THEATER - DAY

Jack enters the theater and approaches the receptionist.

JACK:
(nervously)
Hi, I'm here to audition for the play.

The receptionist looks at him skeptically.

RECEPTIONIST:
(coldly)
Do you have any experience?

JACK:
(uncertainly)
Not really. I used to do plays in high school, but that was a long time ago.

The receptionist rolls her eyes.

RECEPTIONIST:
(impatiently)
Look, we don't have time for amateurs. Sorry.

Jack turns to leave, feeling defeated.

INT. THEATER AUDITORIUM - DAY

Jack walks into the auditorium and looks at the empty stage. He sighs and sits down in one of the seats.

JACK:
(to himself)
I guess this is it. This is my life.

Suddenly, the stage lights turn on. Jack looks up, surprised.

DIRECTOR (O.S.):
(off-screen)
Hello, Jack.

Jack turns to see the DIRECTOR of the play, a middle-aged man with a friendly smile.

DIRECTOR:
(smiling)
I heard you wanted to audition.

Jack looks at him, confused.

JACK:
(stammering)
But... the receptionist said...

DIRECTOR:
(interrupting)
Forget about her. I'm the director. And I think you have potential.

Jack stares at him, speechless.

DIRECTOR:
(encouragingly)
Come on. Let's see what you've got.

Jack takes a deep breath and walks onto the stage. The director hands him a script and Jack begins to read.

As he performs the monologue, Jack begins to come alive. He forgets about his problems, his fears, his failures, and throws himself into the role.
