Did you know you can get taller in space?

Gravity has a significant influence on your height as it compresses your body over decades. In space your body doesn’t have that same gravity and you can start to “decompress” thereby getting taller.

Microgravity has some fascinating effects on the human body, and increase in height is just one one of them.

Here's the science behind it:

1. The Spine's Role: On Earth, gravity compresses our spinal discs. These discs, which act as cushions between our vertebrae, are constantly under pressure.

2. Microgravity's Impact: In microgravity, the lack of downward force allows these discs to expand. This expansion results in astronauts typically gaining a couple of inches in height while in space.

3. Temporary Growth: It's important to remember that this height increase is temporary. Once astronauts return to Earth and gravity's effects resume, their spines compress again, and they return to their pre-space height.
