🎺 MUCH ADO ABOUT TITHES

Part One:

(1) INTRODUCTION: -
The embarrassing controversies raging on the Stewards of the Body of Christ receiving tithes may not be unexpected but it's so unfortunate.

I have done exhaustive teachings on the issue of tithes in previous publications in time past, albeit as analysed in the Holy Bible.
I was never in doubt that the issue will still generate beefing from the public and especially from the intellectuals and some sections of the Church one day. Something holistic has to be done in the way tithes is administered before things begin to get out of hands. This is not a matter of being pessimistic or bias to begin to predicate such outcome, the truth is, God is involved, and He cannot afford to watch the Church which is the beacon of hope in this dark world to wallow in iniquity.

Today I want to revisit this subject matter yet once more. The Truth of the matter is, neither those who cry foul by instigating defiant disposition towards the giving of tithes, be completely wrong, nor those who still believe in maintaining the status quo be in error for any reason whatsoever.

I do humbly seek the indulgence of all my humble audience to please digest this piece with devotion because we are getting somewhere very important. May the labours of the Patriarchs, and foremost Apostles and Prophets be not in vain.

Most importantly: May the lives of genuine believers within the fold and potential converts outside the fold be not at jeopardy as a result of laxity on the part of the gatekeepers in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. In all the Churches I have served and the priests I had interacted with, I have never come across one with sufficient enough collections to meet up with the financial commitments of the Church, not to talk of having excess savings.
Many big Churches you see having much cash flow to embark on massive projects achieve such level of progress with returns they receive from sales of books, and through the generosity of beneficiaries of God's grace in the lives of the highly anointed ministers in the fold. Many Churches receive generous donations from many rich individuals who partake hugely in give and do appreciate God for his blessings upon their lives. Such individuals gives mind burgling donations that are in of excess tithes. This many ignorant, jealous and stingy fellows do not know.

The only shortcoming I see is that, had the Church administered tithes the way God outlined in the Holy Books, many critics would have closed their eyes in shame and cry to God for forgiveness. More so the major beneficiaries would have rose up in defence of tithes and the administrators.

Whether we believe this or not, or not, the fact remains that God can never be on the loosing side should stewards in the fold falter in their duty and still fail to stop dilly-dally over very sensitive issues affecting the earthly Church as we presently experience.

Although God may be grieving over some embarrassing developments in the holy place right now, the sons of men are the ones at the losing end, unless effort is made to nipped in the bud certain very unpardonable behaviours of some Pastors, far beyond the issue of money.

Should the trumpet sound suddenly now, as is the all time anticipation of believers, men and not God have so much to loose. God has done for mankind all the needful. The onus is on to show gratitude and reciprocate with faithful service to Him.

How tragic would it be for so-called preachers of the gospel to suffer miserable end. Let us be apt to rendering holy and acceptable service to God when the time to act wisely is now.

Please follow me as I progress on the discussion in a numerical sequence:

(2) APPARENT OMITTIONS IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF TITHES.
Before we begin to examine what tithe is, and to x-ray whether the collection of tithes by priests of the Gentile Church is appropriate or not, let us do justice to how tithes has been handled by the Gentile priests since we took over the mantle of leadership of the Church from the Apostles who pioneered the Church from pentecost.

THE RIGHTFUL BENEFICIARIES OF TITHES: Tithes was actually approved for the benefits of certain categories of people.

(i) The LEVITES: - The service men from the household of Levi were the first to be mentioned as beneficiaries. These were to enlist for service in the Tabernacle of the congregation from age 30 and serve till age 50 years old. They were to minister at designated duty posts as: high priest, priests, porters, and singers in the Tabernacle of the congregation under the supervision of Aaron the high priest and his son's who had the priest's office by perpetual statute.
( Exodus 29 v 9, Num. 4 v 3, 23)

"And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his son's from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the Tabernacle of the congregation.."
(Numbers 3 v 9 - 12, 8 v 19)

"And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Isreal for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the Tabernacle of the congregation"
(Numbers 18 v 21)

"And the Levites (because he had no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the strangers, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest"
(Deuteronomy 14 v 27 - 29)

The implementation of this statute was to commence after the third year of the resettlement of the children of Israel in the promised land, which was expected to be the year of sowing and reaping.
(Deuter. 14 v 28, 2 Kings 19 v 29)

(ii) The STRANGER :- Every believer must clearly understand that it is in the character of God to be always good, kind, loving and caring. God want us to imbibe the integrity of being humane in relieving the sufferings of fellowmen or women. He want to see his virtues in all our dealings. He knew what distress some people might go through having come under Satanic bo***ge. He knew many would be force to seek refuge from God their Maker, Who is the last hope for the common man. God had strategically positioned the church to be ready to render charity and hospitality to incoming strangers, because, some may be groaning in pain of neglect at the rough edges of life.

As living saints, believers are to open the channel for the relief of the distressed ones, and make them have a taste of the goodness of God, at least once in a life time.
What a lasting impression towards God shall it be on the mind of a stranger who enjoyed a surprise package of generosity in his first visit to the Tabernacle. It is for the sake of people like this that tithes are kept in the storehouse of the LORD.

(iii) The FATHERLESS :-
It is commonly said that children of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and we should begin to entrench unity in spirit, teaching our children the lesson on how to be our brothers keeper.
The laxity shown by elders to the plight of youths is the bane of progress being suffered by many godless societies today. God do not want the Church to close her eyes to the malfunctioning of society, and especially the oversight function in caring for the plight of the fatherless.

Although we do not expect the church to carry the entire burden of society, but at least the sons of deceased members in the fold should not be allowed to suffer the nagging pain of losing a breadwinner of the family. It is for the purpose of ameliorating the hardship of helpless children like this, that God has instituted the tithes scheme.

A case study is the incident that involved Prophet Elisha and the family of a deceased servant of God in the Old Testament. The prophet was on hand to provide a timely reprieve to the widow, whose two children were serving as bondmen to a creditor.
Imagine how unsettled this poor widow had been feeling due to her inability to repay back debt and rescue her two children from slavery. It is to avert such slavery conditions that God has ask the Church to keep in store relief packages for such emergencies.
It is by God's commandment alone that the priests were honoured by the congregation to give out tithes, and not because the priest were the consideration, so the priests must administer the same properly and honourably (2Kings 4 v 1 - 7)

(iv) The WIDOW :- We are being taught to show concern in keeping distressed homes and of families from desolation on the death of the head of a family. God has proved that He is not just a Father to a widow, but also a husband to the faithful woman in the untimely exit of her husband.

Widows should not be allowed to feel empty and rejected as a result of the vacuum created by the demise of husband and breadwinner.

Majority of us are witnesses to the painful maltreatment often meted out on widows and the children of deceased fathers by close relatives. How unbearable could life be as a result of losing a breadwinner to the cold hands of death? Many wicked families have subjected widows of deceased spouses to trauma by ceasing the inheritance left behind for the benefit of the children.

The merciful God sees ahead the unavoidable occurrence of such ugly developments and has placed the church in pole position to render the much needed assistance in times like this. Here again, we see clearly how invaluable the financial modality of the tithes scheme in providing charity to widows.

CONCLUSION:- Since the Gentile priests took over the mantle of leadership to steer the affairs of the church, no effort has been made to address this matter with nobility as should have glorified the name of God.
Listen folks; God did not intend to set up a ghost Church, neither was it in his plan to leave the gatekeepers in the trauma of knowing exactly what do to and how to go about doing it. Affairs of the Church was never planned to be in the hands of philosophers of this world because God want spiritual matters to be handled spiritually and not to be subjected to secular manipulations.

The wisdom to correctly digest God's plan as enunciated in the Holy Books is one major problem that is giving majority of the prelates low scores; Why? Because tithes have never been sufficient for the commitments of the ever growing Church.
