Two years later, and our farm truck continues to be such a blessing! Thank you once again to all who helped make it a reality. In addition to all the farm work of this season, it's helping just a few 😉😅 smallholder farmers get to and from training twice a week.

Decapolis Community Development Center, in partnership with Equipping Farmers International (EFI), is currently carrying out a six-month program with Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project, funded by the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with Omalucy Foods.

The training is equipping more than 60 smallholder farmers (SHFs) with practical skills in regenerative agriculture, including thermal composting, Chicken Manure Soup (CMS), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), vegetable and cash crop production, agroforestry integration, soil health restoration, market linkage, and financial planning.

Farming rice using practices is an almost zero-input cost venture. No herbicides, no pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no tractors for tilling, no irrigation. And look how beautiful and healthy it looks (image on the right).

also provides larger yields on a small portion of land, so farmers can farm on smaller plots closer to home instead of farming large tracts of land in remote, insecure locations.

Decapolis is helping to address insecurity challenges while bridging the gap between the environment and national economic growth by training smallholder farmers in sustainable land stewardship close to home.

JULY 2026 UPDATE

While Decapolis has currently trained smallholder farmers in more than half of the states in Nigeria, the area we have had the least reach in is the Southern states. We have been looking for open doors to that region for years, so when we got a message from EFI asking if we could travel down to Ogun State to meet with a potential new ministry partner, we jumped at the opportunity! What started out as just a chance to meet and get to know each other turned into Raph packing all our soil demonstration equipment into a duffel, boarding a flight, and spending two days at Babcock University in collaborative training with the founder and the international operations director of FARM STEW, another organization that is focused on empowering families and communities through stewardship of God’s resources, and by so doing introduce them to the hope found in Christ. This not only opened the door we’d been praying for into Southern Nigeria, but blew the hinges off, and opened doors we hadn’t even imagined, as we got to share the Message through regenerative agriculture with smallholder farmers from 22 different Central and West African countries!! At the end of the training, our new partners said, “Expect a tsunami!”

At Decapolis, we believe that sustainable change requires investing in our farmers as much as we invest in the land. Their growth as farmers and advocates and leaders is our joy!

Meet Victoria, one of our smallholder women farmers:

* 2023 - she was trained in regenerative farming
* 2024 - she farmed for the first time ever
* 2025 - she was trained as a trainer
* 2026 - she helped us train a group of 50 NEW trainees

Her personal experience and testimony of learning to implement regenerative farming when those around her were trying to discourage her really added to the impact of the presentation. And as she shared the image of her first harvest on the screen, the results spoke for themselves!

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!
How many differences can you find between these two cassava plots? 🧐🤔

The top image is a conventionally farmed cassava plot.

The bottom image is Decapolis' regeneratively-farmed cassava plot on the same property and planted from stem cuttings from the conventional plot in the top image.

The differences you can see between the two plots do not come from an improved variety of cassava or a better piece of land. The difference is better farming practices - no ridges, mulched land, weed-free, biofertilizers, no pesticides or herbicides. - The difference is clear!
