As political parties conduct their primaries ahead of the 2027 elections, citizens must avoid being distracted by campaign slogans, propaganda, and political drama. The real focus should be on the policies, track records, and accountability of those seeking public office.

You and your community must ask critical questions:

• What is the candidate’s economic plan?

• What have they achieved in the past? What does their scorecard look like?

• What are their positions on education, jobs, security, corruption, healthcare, and electricity?

• Do they believe in transparency and accountable governance?

For those currently holding public office and seeking re-election, the questions should go even deeper:

• What promises did they make during the previous elections?

• How much of those promises have they fulfilled?

• How have public funds been used for the development of the community?

• What do the budgets, constituency projects, debt records, and public spending under their leadership reveal?

Elections are not won only on election day; they are shaped by what citizens pay attention to long before campaigns fully begin.

Nigeria will not work, until all of us are willing to make it work.
