As part of our efforts to combat GBV in our communities, INTERCEP organised an interschool debate for secondary school students in Jos North on the motion "Patriarchy is a barrier to men's involvement in gender-based violence prevention."
The students actively argued and brought out different perspectives about the menace of the GBV, showing that we all have a role to play in this fight against GBV.

On 27th September, 2024, INTERCEP, a sub-grantee of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) and the Ford Foundation, held an interactive forum to address the menace of the GBV in schools.
The interactive forum was facilitated by Elder Ambassador Justina Mike Ngwobia. Mrs Ngwobia started by highlighting some aspects that tend to perpetuate the idea of the GBV. “Any part of our culture that is not working for our good has to change,” she emphasised, “otherwise, we will only be treating the symptoms of GBV, not the causes.” She explained that GBV is not only about the physical violence like r**e, female ge***al mutilation, or domestic abuse, but also about psychological and emotional violence. As part of our winding up activity for the project titled "Strengthening the Gender-based Violence Clubs in the 10 Secondary Schools of Jos North LGA of Plateau State and Capacity Building Workshop for Students, Teachers and Women Groups in Preventing and Responding to Gender-based Violence in Jos South LGA of Plateau State," INTERCEP has formally inaugurated GBV Clubs in 10 secondary schools in Jos South LGA of Plateau state.
These clubs were inaugurated as part of our efforts to curb the menace of GBV in schools and the society. The clubs are constituted of students who were earlier trained on the GBV as well as other students who indicate interest to join. The clubs in each of the schools will be headed by a teacher who will serve as our contact person who was also trained a few months back.
The students were encouraged to actively look out for cases of GBV and report to relevant authorities who will take appropriate actions to address it.
This action was implemented by INTERCEP, a sub-grantee of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF).

As part of our ongoing efforts to curb the menace of the GBV, INTERCEP invited 10 secondary school students who were earlier trained on the GBV in June, to a radio engagement at Jay FM, Jos.
The purpose of this engagement was to share their understanding of the threats posed by the GBV. Some of the questions they responded to revolve around the areas of the identification, management, and reporting of GBV cases. They emphasised the if-you-see-something-say-something mantra, and called on parents, especially mothers to relate well and create an atmosphere of engagement between themselves and their children.
This project was carried out by INTERCEP in partnership with the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF).
