I said no — and here’s why it mattered more than a yes.
Someone recently reached out, expecting me to instantly introduce them to a lineup of fintech investors ready to fund their startup.
Different country. No prior context.
When I said, “No, I can’t do that right away"
But I can create a curated list of aligned investors and help you craft personalized email messages for each one,
He was disappointed.
He replied,
“I thought you had someone immediately.”
I get it.
There’s often a misunderstanding around how investor networks actually work.
Many assume having investors in your network means you can just “plug” any startup in and get funding.
But fundraising doesn’t work that way.
He was hoping for a shortcut.
Understandably so
fundraising is hard.
But he confused an introduction with an investment commitment.
He didn’t realize that even warm intros don’t guarantee funding — not even close.
Unfortunately, this mindset isn’t uncommon among fintech founders.
They imagine I have investors on speed dial, and that all it takes is to pass a few names around.
Maybe they’ve met people who overpromise
Those looking to make a quick buck without truly understanding the fundraising ecosystem or caring about the founder’s long-term success.
That’s a setup for disappointment.
Here’s the truth:
👉 No credible person will risk their investor relationships for a startup they haven’t vetted.
And even with a warm introduction, serious investors still run their own checks for alignment
Many don’t appreciate being “forwarded decks” without context.
In fact, they often hate it.

Tech and Fintech founders — if I were to build an investor outreach strategy that actually brings in committed investors, I wouldn’t start with This.
And here’s why.
Warm introduction doesn't guarantee funding.
It is often overrated and overhyped.
What no one talks about is the dozens of warm intros that go nowhere.
Yet, you keep hearing this advice repeated like it’s the magic door to funding.
Yes, warm introductions have worked for some
But relying solely on them as a founder can set you up for disappointment.
Here’s why:
✅ They’re hard to get — because they’re reputation-based.
Building trust with people who actually have access to investors takes time and credibility.
Even if I have 20 investors in my network (built from hard-earned relationships and proven work)
I can’t introduce every founder to them.
Why?
Because:
Investors have different focus areas even within the same industry.
(One may be interested in digital payments, another in lending, another in crypto or remittance.)
They also have different stage preferences — seed, early-stage, growth.
Some have country restrictions or mandates that filter out great companies based on geography alone.
So it’s not about just having investor contacts — it’s about alignment with their specific investment thesis.
And when founders rely solely on warm intros:
It slows down your fundraising,
It risks the introducer’s relationship with the investor,
And worse, it might still lead nowhere — because even warm intros don’t skip due diligence.
Investors still scrutinize every deal, every founder, every opportunity — whether referred or not.
Some may not even be actively investing at the moment.
Of course, if you already have trusted relationships with someone who truly knows the right investors for your business — go for it.
But don’t make that your only play.
Because the truth is:

How a Strategic Slidedoc Secured a Rapid Investor Response in Less Than 2 Days

A founder reached out to me urgently, saying:
"I have an investor I’m talking to, and I need a proposal deck to send them
I asked:
❓ Was this the first meeting? (No, it wasn’t.)
❓ What were the investors skeptical about?

Rather than overwhelming the investor with numbers,
I mapped out a clear two-year break-even strategy that showed exactly how much revenue should be generated monthly and yearly.
This way, the investor wouldn’t have to struggle to understand profitability—it was already spelled out.

The slidedoc demonstrated a tangible, high-demand market opportunity:
150+ businesses on just one street were already spending $2 daily on inefficient solutions.
This frustration led to slow production, financial losses, and a growing demand for better alternatives.
The initial market phase was just 50 businesses, with scalability into an entire business hub, city, and beyond.
I framed this opportunity as an urgent problem with a clear, scalable solution.
