On the 5th of October 2024, we concluded an impactful webinar on Hepatitis B, featuring two distinguished speakers: Mr. Kenechukwu Obiagboso Osuchukwu , a medical student and Abdulmajeed Opeyemi Mr. ABDULMAJEED AGBOOLA B.Sc. MScPH, a public health specialist. The session was an eye-opening experience, providing essential knowledge on Hepatitis B prevention, treatment, and its far-reaching effects on public health.
Speaker 1 Overview:
We were thrilled to have Kenechukwu Obiagboso Osuchukwu who delivered a detailed presentation on the fundamentals of Hepatitis B, focusing on its signs and symptoms, transmission methods, and strategies for effective prevention and treatment. His discussion emphasized:
1. Understanding Hepatitis B: The need for early detection and vaccination in preventing the spread of the virus.
2. Modes of Transmission: The ways the virus can spread through blood, unprotected s*x, and from mother to child.
3. Prevention and Treatment: The critical role of vaccines and early medical intervention in reducing complications.
Speaker 2 Overview:
Our second speaker, ABDULMAJEED AGBOOLA B.Sc. MScPH delved deeper into the public health implications of Hepatitis B. Their discussion provided a broader perspective on how Hepatitis B affects communities and health systems. Key points covered include:
1. Hepatitis B as a Public Health Issue: How widespread Hepatitis B infections place a significant burden on healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
2. Long-term Health Consequences: The link between untreated Hepatitis B and chronic liver diseases, such as cirrhosis and liver cancer, highlighting the need for comprehensive public health interventions.
3. Prevention at the Community Level: The speaker advocated for enhanced vaccination programs, public education campaigns, and improved access to screening and treatment, which are essential for reducing the disease's prevalence.

Both speakers fostered a highly interactive environment, with participants asking engaging questions about Hepatitis B prevention, public health strategies, and the long-term impact of the disease.

Abdulmajeed is a Global Public Health Specialist and modern microbiologist, serving as the assistant patron of the Antimicrobial Resistance Club at Kwara State University (KWASU). He is dedicated to enhancing the health sector through health promotion and community engagement, advocating for a one health approach.
He holds a bachelor's degree from KWASU and a master's degree in public health with a specialization in health promotion and preventive care from a reputable Nigerian university. As a public speaker and health advocate, Abdulmajeed has made significant contributions to his community, volunteering with several non-governmental organizations and applying holistic problem-solving skills.
