Are you using AI or is AI using you?

Most people think AI is not intelligent because it doesn't give them the result they want. But the truth is, AI tools operate at the level of your intelligence.

Your ability to get the best result depends on how clear your prompt is.
If your prompt is confusing, the output will be confusing.

Prompt Engineering is a skill. One that people actually pay money to learn.

That's the exact skill we're exploring at our upcoming webinar titled

"Mastering Prompting for Better AI Results" where you will learn how to:

- Communicate clearly with AI tools
- Get accurate, useful responses every time
- Use prompting techniques that boost your productivity and creativity
- Avoid the common mistakes holding your results back

On June 11th, our Women in AI Fellows returned for a follow-up session that built directly on what they learn during their Career Growth Session from the previous week.

In their career growth session on Storytelling with Data and AI Projects, Jelil handed them a framework: lead with insight, create tension, end with direction. The SCRA Framework gave them a structure for turning numbers into narratives that move people to action. The foundation was set.

The follow-up session took it a step further.

Fellows watched Bryan Cassady’s TEDx talk, 3 Steps to Build a Perfect Speech in an Hour, and the focus this time was sharper: once you have your story, how do you use AI to make sure it actually lands?

Cassady’s answer starts with what he calls the Clarity Gap. Most pitches don’t fail because the idea is bad. They fail because the message is too complex. Research shows that 40% of investors reject pitches simply because they cannot make a clear yes or no decision from what they heard.

His method, Clarity Before Creation, uses AI to close that gap. Three steps:

🔹 Make a Story — use AI to simplify your message until it is impossible to misunderstand.
🔹 Get Feedback — use AI as a brutally honest critic. Ask it why your pitch might fail, then fix it.
🔹 Work on Delivery — once clarity is achieved, let AI handle the slides so you can focus on how you show up.

And his 55/5 rule says it plainly: spend 55 minutes using AI to sharpen the story. Spend 5 minutes on the slides.

Jelil gave our fellows the architecture. Cassady showed them how to pressure-test it with AI. Together, both sessions form a complete picture of what it means to communicate with clarity and intention in a world where attention is short and decisions are fast.

That is exactly the kind of thinking we are building in the Women in AI Fellowship.

Democracy is more than a date on the calendar. It lives in every citizen who asks questions, demands answers, and refuses to look away.

27 years in, the work continues; and we’re committed to ensuring no one is left out of it.

Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬

Two of our team members had a trivia battle😅

Which answer did you guess right?

Data don't speak for itself. You speak for it.

That was the heartbeat of the career growth session on 4th of June, led by Jelil Adedoyin, who joined the Women in AI Fellows at Webfala Digital Skills for all Initiative to explore one of the most underrated skills in tech: turning data into stories that move people to action.

Jelil opened with a simple but powerful truth: why stories beat spreadsheets. He walked fellows through a side-by-side case study of the same business report presented two ways, one technical, one narrative, and the difference was clear. One led to confusion. The other led to curiosity and action.

He then broke down exactly why the storytelling version worked, anchored on three core principles:

✅ Lead with insights
✅ Create tension
✅ End with direction

From there, fellows were introduced to the SCRA Framework (Situation, Complication, Resolution, Action), rooted in Barbara Minto's Pyramid Principle. Using an AI project pitch as a live case study, the framework came to life in a way that made it immediately applicable.
Some standout takeaways from the session:

🔹 Run the "So What" test. If you can't explain why your audience needs a data point, cut it.
🔹 One idea per slide. Always.
🔹 Translate every number into a human insight.

The session wrapped with a live workshop where fellows were challenged to pitch an AI project they're passionate about, in just 2 minutes, using the SCRA Framework as a guide. The energy in the room was proof that when learning is applied, it sticks.

Data is powerful. But the story you tell around it? That's what drives decisions.

To our Women in AI Fellows: keep building, keep pitching, and remember that your voice is the bridge between the numbers and the people who need to act on them.

As we mark a full year of our Code Club programme, we pause to celebrate a journey that has truly moved us. In partnership with the Kwara State Commissioner for Education, we set out with a clear conviction: that the digital divide is not inevitable, and that every child, regardless of background, gender, or geography, deserves the opportunity to build skills for a rapidly changing world.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.
With the generous support of and .club , this past year has produced impact we are honoured to share:

- 60 Code Clubs established: Created hubs of learning across public and private schools, with 60% located in rural and underserved communities.

- 80 Mentors trained: Empowered club leaders through intensive “Train the Trainers” workshops focused on coding, robotics, and online safety.

- 3,000 Students empowered: Equipped young learners with foundational digital literacy and coding skills through practical, project-based methods.

- Equipping for Success: Provided schools with essential robotics kits to ensure learners have hands-on experience with technology.

- Localized Resources: Published and distributed our book, “Coding and Robotics” a practical guide, to schools to further aid learning and provide a sustainable roadmap for students.

- Inclusive Education: Promoting equality by creating safe, supportive spaces for all students to participate in technology learning.

- Building Sustainability: Forging strategic partnerships with educational authorities and community stakeholders to ensure long-term impact.

From building prototypes that solve everyday problems to fostering a new generation of digital thinkers, our students have shown us that when you provide the right tools and a supportive space, creativity knows no bounds.

Thank you to our partners, our dedicated mentors, and the students who made this year so remarkable.

While this program phase is ending, the foundation we’ve built for these young digital leaders is just the beginning.

Every moment we scroll past this reality is a moment our silence sides with their abductors.

A classroom should be the safest address a child knows. Today, it has become a site of terror.

39 students. 7 teachers. Taken. And yet the summits continue. Budgets are announced. Desks remain empty.

At Webfala Digital Skills for All Initiative, we believe that access to education is inseparable from the right to safety.

We are not asking you to feel pity, we are calling you to action.

We stand in solidarity with every family living this nightmare.

Meet Our Speaker

We are excited to welcome Jelil Adedoyin, Digital Marketing Manager at Reckitt Sub-Saharan Africa, for an upcoming Career Growth Session with our Women in AI Fellows on “Storytelling with Data and AI Projects”

In the world of AI, building solutions is only part of the journey. The ability to communicate insights, tell compelling stories with data, and clearly articulate the value of AI projects is what transforms technical work into real-world impact.

With over a decade of experience driving data-informed marketing strategies across Africa and working with global brands such as Dettol, D***x, Harpic, Veet, and Gaviscon, Jelil brings a unique blend of data, technology, business, and storytelling expertise to this session.

Through this session, fellows will gain valuable insights into how to turn complex data into meaningful narratives, present AI projects effectively, and communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence.

We look forward to an engaging and insightful learning experience.

Webfala Digital Skills for All Initiative strongly condemns the horrific abduction of 39 students and 7 teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

This crisis is a direct and unacceptable assault on the fundamental right to a safe school environment, which is the absolute baseline for any child’s development and learning.

Our children and educators deserve secure classrooms, peace of mind, and the chance to build a brighter future entirely free from fear.

We demand an immediate and uncompromising intervention from the government and security agencies to bring our students and teachers home safely.
