Pretty Ekiti LG Vice Chairman Cools off in Prison Over Alleged Self-Kidnap Plot to Raise Money for Political Commitments
The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Grace Ogunleye, and three others over an alleged conspiracy and self-kidnapping scheme.
According to the police, the suspects were brought before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti following the conclusion of investigations into the incident.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the case file had been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and requested that the court grant the remand application.
Ogunleye was reportedly declared kidnapped on May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road after her vehicle was found abandoned by the roadside. However, police investigations allegedly uncovered that the kidnap incident was staged as part of a plan to raise funds for financial obligations and political commitments.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Pius Dada, condemned the alleged act, describing it as embarrassing and unacceptable. He warned that such incidents could erode public trust in government officials and security agencies, stressing that no public office holder would be shielded from justice if found guilty.

🥹🥹 EDUCATION CRISIS: 3 OUT OF 4 NIGERIAN CHILDREN CAN'T READ OR SOLVE BASIC MATH AT AGE 14 – UNICEF
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed a troubling reality: only 1 in every 4 schoolchildren in Nigeria can read proficiently and solve basic mathematics problems by the age of 14.
Speaking at a media dialogue on Digital Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Skills Development for Out-of-School Children in Osun State, UNICEF warned that the rapid growth of AI and digital technology could deepen existing inequalities if urgent investments are not made in quality education and digital skills.
Girls remain the most affected due to poverty, cultural barriers, and social exclusion.
UNICEF is also calling on journalists and media practitioners to keep education issues in the spotlight, stressing that consistent reporting can drive policy changes and improve learning outcomes for millions of children.
Beyond the learning crisis, millions of Nigerian children are still completely out of school.

Ebola Scare Grows as WHO Declares Congo & Uganda Outbreak an International Emergency
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following rising cases and deaths linked to the deadly virus.
According to the WHO, the outbreak in Ituri Province has recorded about 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths, with fears that the situation could become far worse than currently reported.
Health officials revealed that the outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, a rare strain with no approved vaccine or specific treatment available yet.
Authorities confirmed eight laboratory-tested cases so far, with infections reported in Bunia, Mongwalu and Rwampara. A case has also been detected in Kinshasa after a patient reportedly travelled from Ituri.
The virus has now crossed borders, with neighbouring Uganda confirming two Ebola cases, including a 59-year-old Congolese man who later died.
WHO warned that insecurity, heavy movement of people, overcrowded urban areas and weak healthcare systems in eastern DR Congo could increase the risk of regional spread.
Early symptoms of Ebola include fever, headache, fatigue, muscle pain and sore throat. In severe cases, patients may experience vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes and bleeding.
The WHO has advised DR Congo and Uganda to strengthen emergency response systems, isolate confirmed cases immediately and intensify contact tracing to reduce further spread.
