They are to maintain a 24 hour surveillance and link up with the booths on the ground. This order equally applies to the Kebbi and Niger States axis where many are expected to be rescued.

Just In: Federal High Court Sentnces Nnamdi Kanu to Life Imprisonment

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment after an appeal for leniency urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

The sentencing was delivered on Thursday following an hours-long judgment in which Kanu was convicted on all t+rrorism-related charges brought by the Department of State Services (DSS) on behalf of the Federal Government.

Justice Omotosho ruled that Kanu would serve life imprisonment on counts one, two, four, five, and six — all of which ordinarily carry the d+ath penalty.

He further held that the sentences on counts three and seven would run concurrently.

According to the court, Kanu’s declarations of sit-at-home orders in the South-East, along with repeated threats of v+olence and k%llings made in several broadcasts, amounted to acts of t+rrorism.

The judge also upheld the conviction on count three, which stated that Kanu, on various dates between 2018 and 2021, professed himself to be a member of IPOB, an organization already proscribed in Nigeria.

Lt. AM Yerima sensed early on that something was wrong. He realized he was being watched closely and followed everywhere he went. It seemed as if the police were trailing him from one location to another.

Then, while driving along the highway, a police pick-up suddenly sped toward him and double-crossed his vehicle, blocking his path without warning.

The officers confronted him aggressively, shouting, “You’re the one who embarrassed Wike and the police force!” Sensing danger, Lt. Yerima immediately pressed his panic button to alert the Navy, the Army, and the entire military network. He also secured himself right away in case anything went wrong.

Within minutes, military personnel arrived in full force, and the police officers who attempted to intimidate him fled the scene instantly.

Shortly after, the military traced those same officers back to their station. Investigations are now underway to uncover who gave the order to trail and block Lt. Yerima in the first place.

I sincerely hope this situation is not what it appears to be. This man deserves full protection. Since the previous issue involving Wike, it’s possible that some of Wike’s supporters might be targeting him. But they forget that Yerima is not a civilian—he is a senior military officer. His safety must be prioritized at all costs.
