We believe in Transport Equity: the principle that everyone, regardless of income, gender, age, or disability status, deserves fair and affordable access to safe and reliable transport systems.
When transport is equitable, people can access healthcare, education, jobs, and social participation.
π¨ The Current Reality in Nigeria:
Today, escalating fuel prices and soaring transport fares are deepening mobility inequalities across the country. For vulnerable populations, such as Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), women, older adults, and low-income households, getting from point A to point B has become increasingly unaffordable, unsafe, and inaccessible.
We measure transport equity using indicators such as affordability, accessibility, safety, travel time, and connectivity. Right now, these indicators are flashing red, leading to severe mobility exclusion.
π‘ The Way Forward:
Nigeria urgently needs inclusive, people-centered transport policies. To bridge this gap, we must prioritize the following:
π Affordable public transport subsidies for vulnerable groups
βΏ Accessible vehicles and pedestrian infrastructure
πΊ Gender-sensitive and disability-inclusive transport planning
ποΈ Integrated land use and transport systems
π± Investments in safe, sustainable mobility options
Equitable mobility is not a luxury; it is a social justice and development imperative. A transport system that excludes vulnerable populations ultimately limits our national productivity, inclusion, and human dignity.

π Mobility is not a luxury, it's a right.
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of people, especially women, persons with disabilities, children, and low-income earners, are systematically excluded by urban transport systems that fundamentally fail to meet their needs.
This profound disparity is why Transport Aid Initiative exists.
As a non-governmental organization, we are dedicated to accelerating the transition of Sub-Saharan African cities towards inclusive, sustainable urban mobility. Our mission aligns directly with SDG 11.2: ensuring safe, affordable, and accessible transport for all by 2030.
Our work goes beyond infrastructure. We go beyond infrastructure, advocating for and working directly with the most marginalized populations. Our goal is to ensure mobility solutions truly reflect their realities, not just the privileged few.
π Access to mobility is access to opportunity. Where you can go profoundly shapes what you can become.
Currently, a staggering 2 out of 3 people across Africa lack access to reliable public transport. This critical gap doesn't just inconvenience; it costs lives, undermines livelihoods, and stifles futures.
We believe African cities have the potential to pioneer truly inclusive urban mobility.
Achieving this requires unwavering collaboration, strong political will, and deeply community-centered action.
