Somewhere along the line, accountability stopped being part of parenting.

Teachers became the enemies.

Rules became optional.

And every consequence turned into a personal attack.

Kids haven’t changed nearly as much as parents have.

There was a time when if a teacher called home, you were in trouble before the phone even hung up.

Parents backed the adults in the room because they understood the world doesn’t bend for their kid.

Now every rule gets debated.

Every correction gets challenged.

Every authority figure gets treated like the problem.

And the child learns the one lesson that will follow them for life:

Blame everyone except yourself.

Kids aren’t growing up without discipline.

They’re growing up without parents willing to enforce it.

And the result is a generation that thinks every boundary is negotiable.

But here’s the truth every parent eventually learns the hard way:

If you don’t teach your kid how to act, the world will.

And the world won’t be nearly as gentle about it.

⚠️Over 20,468 schools across seven states in Northern Nigeria have been shut indefinitely after yet another brutal wave of school-kidnappings and attacks — threatening to erase a generation’s chance at education. -Amnesty International.

These closures aren’t just numbers — they’re lost lessons, dashed dreams, and childhoods under siege.

At UDOFoundation we believe education shouldn’t depend on luck or safety. Every child deserves a classroom — not fear.

⚠️ Attention Parents & Students: There is no federal order to shut all schools in Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Education has officially denied the viral message claiming a nationwide closure from November 24.

Yes, some states are temporarily closing schools — but not because of a blanket federal directive.

We believe every child deserves a safe place to learn without fear or confusion. Let’s not spread panic — instead, let’s stand for verified information and demand security in our schools, not misinformation.

👉 Stay alert. Protect our students. Verify before sharing.

May our kids be safe in the classrooms.
May peace be restored.

Last Saturday, we had an amazing time learning about the physical and mental implications child marriage had on the girl child.

Our speakers Dr. Emem Idoko, a professional pediatrician and psychologist, Maryam Suleiman shared deep insights about this issue and how we can overcome them.

Here are some key points to note.

When a girl gets married, she's likely to get pregnant;

1. This pregnancy is a high risk state and can lead to death. Why? Her pelvis, hips and cervix are not fully developed.

2. She can easily suffer from vesicovaginal fistula, recto vaginal fistula, obstructed labour, post partum haemorrhage and infections.

3. She goes through hormonal changes she cannot deal with that can affect her mood and behaviour

4. She may suffer from severe malnutrition as she doesn't know how to properly care for herself and the baby.

5. Mentally, she's likely to suffer from depression, anxiety and stress.

6. These may lead to mental health issues such as psychosis and schizophrenia.

7. These traumas may not end with her. It can be projected to her children.

8. The advisable age for a girl to carry a child is 20. Not even 18!

9. Let's stop teaching the girl child to run from this violence, let's stop the perpetrators.

Do you truly desire to lend your voice to protect girls? Arm yourself with knowledge, not just emotions.

Oh what an experience I had representing UDOFoundation at the Nigeria Network of NGOs annual conference 2025!

Themed Advancing Solutions and New Institutional Support for the Nonprofit Sector, I learned so much from the panel sessions and here are my best takeaways by the panelists.

1. Nonprofits should leverage volunteers. Volunteerism brings about ownership.

2. The biggest issue when it comes to collaboration across sectors is trust. That must exist between all actors; private, public and the nonprofit sector before strategies can be put in place.

3. Document the true impact of the work you have done. No one else should tell your story better than you.

4. Think of a funding strategy from the get go. Not waiting until you realise that you need funding.

5. Giving to nonprofits can be in 3 ways; Time, Trust and Talent. Let's not always focus on money!

6. If running your NGO is becoming burdensome, close shop! (this really made me laugh)

If you are a nonprofit leader, I recommend that you register your organisation with the NNNGO. These meetings are some of the blessings we enjoy.
