"What The Violin Can Make You Do"

Good day everyone.

Have you ever heard one note from a violin... and suddenly felt something?

Not just music. But memory. Hope. Pain. Joy. All at once.

That’s because a violin doesn’t just make sound. A violin makes you do things.

It can make you feel when words fail you.
When you’re broken, it cries with you.
When you’re grateful, it sings for you.
When you can’t pray out loud, it prays through the strings.

It can make you disciplined.
Because the violin does not lie.
If your finger is 1mm off, we all hear it.
So it teaches you patience. It teaches you to show up every day, even when no one is clapping yet.

It can make you brave.
To stand in front of people with just wood, 4 strings, and a bow... and pour your heart out.
No lyrics. No autotune. Just you and the sound.

It can make you connect.
In an orchestra, in church, at a wedding, on the streets of Aba or Calabar — the moment that bow touches the string, people stop.
They remember. They heal. They believe again.

And most of all, it can make you believe in yourself.
Because if you can take something so small, and fill a whole room with it...
Then what else can you do with the little you have in your hands?

So to every young person listening:
Don’t despise small beginnings.
Don’t say "it’s too hard."
Pick it up. Practice. Cry over it. Fight for it.

Because the violin won’t just make music.
It will make YOU.

Happy Birthday (August 22) to Váša Příhoda (Czech violinist)!
Váša Příhoda (August 22, 1900 – July 26, 1960) was a Czech violinist and composer. Considered a Paganini specialist, his recording of the Violin Concerto in A minor by Dvořák is still highly praised.

Příhoda was born in Vodňany in 1900. His father, Alois Příhoda, was his first teacher and remained so for ten years. Váša studied privately with Jan Mařák (a student of Otakar Ševčík), making his first public concert at age 13, playing the 4th Violin Concerto by Mozart. At age 19 a tour of Italy proved unsuccessful; poverty-stricken, he joined the orchestra of the Café Grand Italia in Milan to earn money. There, he was heard by chance by Arturo Toscanini, who arranged a benefit concert for him. He resumed his Italian tour, this time to great success. He was said to have been given Niccolò Paganini's own violin on which to play. He toured Argentina, Brazil and the United States in 1920, and the USA again in 1921. He once shared the stage of the Royal Albert Hall with Pablo Casals.

Příhoda gave concerts extensively all over the world and made a number of recordings when the industry was in its infancy. Unfortunately, some of his recordings were not well-produced so the sound quality is poor. He played in the U.S. many times.

He married violinist Alma Rosé in 1930, but they divorced in March 1935 in Czechoslovakia. Vasa was to marry a second time.

Prihoda appeared in two films in 1936: A Woman Between Two Worlds and The Love of the Maharaja. During World War II he taught at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. As he had continued to perform in Germany and German-occupied territories after the N**i invasion of Czechoslovakia, he was briefly charged with collaboration after the war, and censured by the Czech government.

He later taught at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, where his students included Friedrich Cerha. His students also included the cellist Jascha Silberstein. Vienna was his base of op
