This smile has a story 🥺.

It starts tragically for each and everyone of them but it doesn’t have to end tragically if we play our collective parts towards building a safer community for all children regardless of status.

Did you share a smile today?

Before they began to shape the world for the better, they were cute little children 🥰.

Now they fight for the rights of other children across their communities shaping their lives for the better.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”

To get them ready for the new academic term, we organized a fun picnic for the children under our back to school scholarship program. As a community we don’t just thrive to improve the children’s academic performance , we also try to build their social and communication skills through fun interactive activities as well as create that safe space that allows them experience childhood to the fullest.

The back to school picnic featured wholesome moments where the children shared their experiences from the previous session as well as their expectations for the new session. It also featured exciting game activities like Tug of War, Races etc between the volunteers and the children.

It takes a village and we are glad to be a part of one positively inspiring the next generation.

11 months ago when we found Samuel during one of our street corners activities, he was in severe pains. He had suffered an electric burn to his entire back and hadn’t been treated for 6months. He couldn’t even raise his hands due to the injuries.

We stepped in as a community and crowdfunded for his surgery. It was successful and he has spent the last couple of months surviving the pain and working on his rehabilitation.

Together we gave him a second chance at life, and a chance to build a better, brighter future.

This is what Street Corners makes possible.

We taught him to carry everything except the right to set it down.
We taught him to be strong
before we told him what strong means
before he had a word for the ache.

We gave him a fist and called it a future.
We gave him silence and called it strength.
We gave him a road and forgot to ask
where he was headed; if his feet were sore.

Look at him, not at what you need him to become.
Look at what he already is:
a full sky, still learning he is allowed to rain.

Happy International Day to the boy child.
Boys are not a problem to be managed; there are questions we have refused to answer with tenderness. Now is the time to answer, and answer them right.

Reunification is not a straight path. It often involves a delicate dance to rehabilitate the child and the home they had to escape from. It requires persistence, grace and patience. No child really wants to call the streets home. The story never begins with them running away from home and that’s why we do what we do.

We understand that they are children first and do not expect any form of perfection from them but treat them with love, kindness and compassion even when they make mistakes. Through this, we are able to strengthen the bond needed to completely transform their lives and shape their future for the better.

It’s been 2 years since Blessed was reunited back with his family, over the past year + he has been learning furniture making and has made significant progress with his skills. Come September 2026, he would be joining our Back to School Scholarship program.

When we met Blessed in 2024 during one of our street corners, he had been living on the streets for over a year. Countless efforts had been made to take him back but he still ended up on the streets after a short while. His parents were separated at the time and he stayed with his paternal grandmother. Due to his constant relapse to the streets, his family had lost hope in him completely.

When we stepped into the situation, after series of counseling and Blessed finally accepting to go home, our biggest obstacle became his grandmother accepting him back. It wasn’t an easy feat because a particular lady who happens to be a neighbor kept trying to convince the grandmother not to accept him back that he wouldn’t change but through the help of another neighbor(A male figure in the compound) we were able to convince his grandmother as to why we should all join efforts to oversee Blessed’s stay at home. In the end, motherly love won and Blessed was accepted back home.

This is what community and consistency makes possible in line with street corners.

They called them a problem. We see them as people.
This video holds two views at once , what the government/society sees, and what we see every time we show up.

These children are not a nuisance to be cleared from the streets. They are children who laugh, learn, trust, and grow when someone decides they are worth the effort.

The March 19th incident was a failure of policy.
We are calling on the government and every well meaning individual who has ever walked past a child on the street to demand better.
Rehabilitation, not removal. Protect, not punish.
