The increasing incidence of old trees falling within the Calabar metropolis is becoming a serious cause for concern.

In recent times, several aged trees have collapsed across different locations in the city, causing significant damage to vehicles, buildings, and other valuable properties. While Calabar is renowned for its beautiful green environment, it is important that public safety remains a top priority.

I respectfully call on the Cross River State Government, the Ministry of Works, and the Ministry of Environment to urgently assess the condition of aging and potentially hazardous trees within the metropolis. Proactive measures such as regular inspections, pruning, reinforcement, or the safe removal of weakened trees should be implemented to prevent future occurrences.

Preventive action today will save lives, protect properties, and preserve the beauty of our city in a safer and more sustainable manner.

A safer Calabar is a collective responsibility. Let us act before another avoidable incident occurs.
