EPISODE 3.

That weekend, Kambili traveled back to Enugu to see her parents.

Her mother was cooking in the kitchen, humming a gospel song.

Her father was reading the Bible in the sitting room. Everything felt normal — too normal for the storm she was about to bring.

After dinner, she asked them to sit down.

“I need to tell you something,” she began. Her voice was shaking, but she didn’t stop. “I am pregnant.”

Silence.

Her father’s face dropped. Her mother froze.

Her father’s voice was cold. “You said you were still a virgin.”

Her mother covered her mouth with her hands. Her father stood up and paced the room.
