Preparing and Surviving Seasons of Crisis
Hey friend, let me share something simple… but powerful.
Have you ever watched an ant closely? Not casually… but intentionally.
Because the Bible draws our attention to it for a reason.
In Proverbs 6:6-8, Scripture says:
“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways and be wise. Which, having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.”
Now pause and think about that. The ant does not wait for crisis before it starts preparing. It prepares in a season where there is no pressure. It gathers in a season where everything seems abundant. It works when it looks like there is no urgency.
And this is where many people miss it. We only become serious when things start going wrong. We only pray deeply when pressure comes. We only think strategically when resources are low. We only value what we have… when we start losing it.
But the ant does not live like that. The ant understands something most people ignore. Seasons change. There is a summer. And there is a winter. There are seasons of abundance. And there are seasons of scarcity.
The wisdom of the ant is not in survival. It is in preparation. Because what sustains it in the winter… was not gathered in the winter. It was gathered in the summer.
Now let me show you something else that is very fascinating about the ant.
If you are going to talk about strength… you don’t talk about ants. They are small. They are weak. They are easy to overlook.
But watch them closely. Drop something as small as sugar on the ground. At first, you may see just one ant. But give it a moment. Before you know it, many have gathered.
How did they come? Collaboration. Communication. Partnership.
The ant understands something powerful. It cannot survive alone. So it does not try to.
And this is a leadership lesson. Some people are waiting for someone to lead them before they move. Waiting for someone to tell them what to do. Waiting for the perfect condition.
But the ant has no ruler… yet it moves with precision. That means initiative is a survival skill.
If you lack initiative, life will overwhelm you. There are times even God will expect you to move. To think. To act. To respond. But some people sit back, waiting for God to do what He has already given them the capacity to do.
Now bring that into your life. There are seasons when things are working. Your finances are stable. Your health is fine. Your relationships are intact. Your mind is clear. And in those seasons, it is easy to relax. It is easy to assume it will always be like this.
But wisdom says, prepare. Build capacity. Save. Grow. Strengthen your relationship with God. Develop your mind.
Because the season you are in now is not permanent. The summer will end.
And let me say this carefully. Preparation is not fear. Preparation is wisdom. The ant is not anxious. The ant is aware.
Now here is another lesson. The ant survives crisis… because it respected the season before it.
Many people struggle in difficult seasons not because they are weak… but because they were unprepared.
Crisis does not always destroy people. Sometimes, it reveals what was missing.
And I need you to hear this without offense. There are battles you don’t need prayer to escape. You need preparation to withstand.
If you build strength before the pressure comes, you will not break when it arrives.
Spiritually, this matters even more. Don’t wait until you are overwhelmed before you start seeking God. Don’t wait until your mind is under attack before you learn His Word. Don’t wait until everything is shaking before you build your faith. Because when the season shifts… you will not have time to start building from zero.
Now let me take it further. Every crisis introduces two things. Problems… and opportunities.
Most people only see the problem. But wisdom sees opportunity. Because every problem carries within it a hidden opportunity. A solution. A strategy. A new direction.
If you see it only as a crisis… you will respond like a victim. But if you see it as an opportunity… you will seize it.
Now think about this. In the days of plenty, Joseph gave a strategy. Store. Prepare. Preserve. Because famine was coming.
Imagine how much they stored… that sustained them for seven years. This is the same wisdom you see in the ant. It gathers in harvest. It prepares in abundance.
So hear this. When God is blessing you… don’t consume everything. Keep something. Save something. Build something. Life can be unpredictable.
And yes, there are moments where God shows up miraculously. But there are also moments where He expects you to take responsibility. Work. Learn. Read. Educate yourself. Grow your capacity.
Because even though the ant is weak… It survives. Not because of strength. But because of wisdom.
So let me ask you something. What are you doing with your “summer”? Are you just enjoying it? Or are you preparing for what is ahead?
Because seasons will change. They always do. And when they do… Those who prepared will stand. Those who didn’t… will struggle.
So learn from the ant. Not just to survive crisis… but to be ready for it before it comes.
Because wisdom is not reacting when things go wrong. Wisdom is preparing before they do.
And if you start now… You won’t just survive your next season. You will walk through it with strength, confidence and wisdom.
