Project Gaea

Our Story

The GAEA Foundation (otherwise called Project GAEA) is a non-profit organization founded upon three basic ideals (which I call the Tripod Pillars of the Foundation):
• Environmental consciousness and awareness.
• Youth/Personal development.
• Domestic violence.
As a student who studied a little on Environmental Law, I have come to understand and better appreciate the consequential harm the activities of man causes to the environment. Bearing this in mind, I have come to the conclusion that the health of the environment is actually everybody's business, especially those who have seen the 'light'. I have taken it upon myself to do whatever little I can towards the preservation of the environment. This is certainly a little step but I do believe that even one step in the right direction is progress. Rome, it is said, was not built in a day, and I know we cannot save the environment in one day...but we could start today!
Domestic violence is not only an issue that impacts negatively on the lives and integrity of women and other vulnerable persons in the society, but also one that is highly under- reported and without adequate remedies. It is a global problem of enormous proportions. However, it is still taken by many to be something of a trivial nature. It is about time everyone understood its effects on victims, both physically and psychologically.
Youth development is a process that prepares a young person to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood and achieve his or her full potential. Positive youth development is an intentional, pro-social approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances youths' strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths. With the alarming increase in drug and alcohol abuse in contemporary Nigeria, the youths of today really need to be enlightened on what and what not to engage in, and how best to tackle peer pressure, among other things.
Bearing this in mind, Project GAEA stands to take a leap of faith and commitment in the right direction.
