Integrating Social Register with NIN: NASSCO, NIMC, and SOCU train Facilitators and Enumerators from 18 LGAs in Ondo State
The 3-day Step-Down Training for facilitators and Enumerators signals the commencement of updating the National Social Register with 5 member teams comprising facilitators and enumerators across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
As part of its constant effort to update the National Social Register, the Ondo State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), the National Social Safety- Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) organized a 3- day step down training for Desk officers, Grievance Redress Officers and Enumerators across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
Declaring the training open, the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Bamidele John Daisi said the program is a welcome development as it is critical to the development of the state.
He charged the 90 participants in attendance to put in their best at the point of discharging their duties as the success of the project was in their hands. "It's a very critical assignment you have in your hands; you must put in your best to ensure the success of this exercise, "he emphasized.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Ondo SOCU Coordinator, Bankole Olaoluwa Esq. said in line with the mandate of his office which is to create a Single Register for poor and vulnerable households, SOCU is collaborating with NIMC and NASSCO to integrate the National Identity Number (NIN) into the Single Social Register (SSR) so that individuals that have already been captured in the single register can be linked with their NIN.
Providing more insight on the purpose of the training, Olaoluwa said "We want to make sure that data is not just about statistics. Our goal is to humanize the process such that individuals in the SSR can be linked to their NIN so that we can have inclusive social protection and know whoever the government is giving support to".
He also elucidated that those who are yet to be captured before now will have the opportunity to do so as the Community Based Target Team will be deployed into various communities across the state shortly for expansion of the Single Register once the present NIN integration and update is concluded.
While charging the participants to make the most use of the 3-day training, he thanked partners on the project, most especially officials of NIMC, for their support in ensuring the objective of the exercise was achieved.
At the event also, the State Director of NIMC, Dr. Mrs. Wuraola Akinrinlola, restated the importance of data inclusion, stressing that a time is coming when those without National Identity will not be able to enjoy any social facilities.
"Our goal is to attain total inclusion. You will agree with me that some people in rural areas are yet to be captured. Those trained will be deployed to their respective communities to capture fresh data as we want everybody to have a national identity", she further stressed.
Still advocating for the cause, Ondo State Statistician General, Mr. Ajayi Olusola, in his goodwill message, restated the importance of data to development. He expressed high hopes for the project, noting that it will ultimately help the government in driving its policies for a greater impact on society.
In a chat with newsmen, some of the participants who spoke expressed readiness to work and help achieve the success of the exercise.
The 3-day training came to an end with a visit to Bolorunduro in Akure North LGA and Adegbola in Akure South LGA, where household members already captured were asked to provide their NN, and their existing data was immediately linked seamlessly.
