Abducted Oyo School Principal Breaks Silence After 24 Days in Captivity, Debunks ₦1 Billion Ransom Claims
The abducted principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has spoken publicly after spending 24 days in captivity, dismissing reports that her abductors demanded a ₦1 billion ransom and the implementation of Sharia law across Nigeria.
Speaking after her release, Alamu described the reports as inaccurate and urged the public to rely on verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the abduction. She provided firsthand clarification on the incident, seeking to address misinformation that had circulated in some sections of the media.
Alamu was among several teachers and pupils abducted when armed gunmen attacked schools in the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities of Oyo State in May. The attack, which triggered widespread concern across the state, also claimed the life of a school official during the invasion.
The school abduction drew national attention, with families, community leaders, and government officials calling for the safe return of the victims. During her captivity, Alamu appeared in a video appealing for urgent intervention to secure the release of those held by the kidnappers.
Her latest remarks are expected to provide greater clarity on the conditions surrounding the abduction and the demands made by the kidnappers, as authorities continue efforts to tackle insecurity and kidnapping across affected communities.

Legendary Nigerian Juju musician, Sir Shina Peters, made history in 1989 with the release of his iconic album titled Ace, a project that transformed the landscape of Nigerian music and established him as one of Africa’s biggest entertainers.
Before the release of Ace, Sir Shina Peters had already built a reputation in the Juju music scene through years of performances and collaborations.
However, the album became the turning point of his career due to its unique sound, energetic rhythm, and creative storytelling.
Reports from music historians revealed that the title Ace was chosen to reflect excellence, superiority, and mastery.
The album showcased Sir Shina Peters’ confidence in his musical style, blending traditional Juju sounds with modern instruments, danceable beats, and saxophone-driven melodies that appealed to both young and old audiences.
The album, officially titled Ace (Afro Juju Series 1), introduced a new wave known as “Afro Juju,” a fusion of Juju, Fuji, highlife, and Afrobeat influences.
The project enjoyed massive airplay across radio stations in Nigeria and beyond, with fans praising its nonstop dance rhythm and energetic delivery.
One of the standout features of the album was its continuous mix format, where songs flowed into one another without interruption, creating a party-like atmosphere that became popular at social gatherings and events in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Music analysts believe the success of Ace not only elevated Sir Shina Peters’ status in the entertainment industry but also inspired many upcoming musicians who later explored modernized indigenous sounds.
Decades after its release, Ace remains one of the most celebrated albums in Nigerian music history and continues to enjoy recognition among lovers of classic African music.
