International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM)

Healing Communities. Protecting Girls. Ending FGM Together.

Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) is not just a harmful practice - it is a deep wound that affects girls, women, families, and entire communities. Beyond the physical harm, FGM leaves lasting emotional and psychological scars that require healing, support, and understanding.

On this International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, SUSEW Human Development Foundation stands in solidarity with survivors and affected communities. Ending FGM is not only about stopping the act; it is also about healing communities, challenging harmful norms, and creating safe spaces where survivors are heard, supported, and empowered.

True change happens when communities come together - engaging parents, traditional leaders, men, women, and young people - to choose protection over pain and dignity over tradition.

We believe every girl deserves a future free from violence, fear, and harmful practices. Together, through education, dialogue, and collective action, we can end FGM and build healthier, safer communities for all.

Zero tolerance today. Healing for survivors. Protection for the next generation.

SUSEW Human Development Foundation joined other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ebonyi State to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Education at Akanu Ibiam Secondary School, opposite Stadium, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The activity brought together education-focused CSOs, educators, and students to spotlight the transformative power of education in shaping lives, strengthening communities, and promoting equality. The engagement created a safe and interactive space for young people to reflect on the value of education, personal responsibility, and the role of learning in achieving their dreams.

Speaking during the event, Mrs. Doris Chikadodili, the director of SUSEW Human Development Foundation, engaged the students in an inspiring session that emphasized the importance of education as a lifelong tool for empowerment and social change. She encouraged the students especially the younger ones to remain committed to their studies, uphold positive values, and see education as a pathway to self-development, leadership, and responsible citizenship.

Mrs. Doris Chikaodili Okereke also highlighted the need for inclusive and quality education that leaves no child behind, stressing that access to education is not a privilege but a fundamental human right. The session allowed students to ask questions, share their aspirations, and receive guidance on making informed choices that support their academic and personal growth.

The commemoration reaffirmed SUSEW Human Development Foundation’s commitment to advancing education, empowering young people, and supporting community-driven initiatives that promote equity, dignity, and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
