Linking Adewoye to Monarchs’ Equity Campaign Is False, Malicious and Misleading

The recent publication attacking the Igbomina Traditional Council and some of the most respected traditional rulers in Kwara South is unfortunate, reckless, malicious, and deeply disrespectful to the revered institution of traditional leadership.

Particularly offensive is the erroneous, misplaced, and mischievous attempt to attribute the agitation of the traditional rulers to the influence or sponsorship of any individual political actor. Even more disturbing is the baseless allegation that respected monarchs were induced with ₦100,000 each to advocate a position they sincerely believe serves the interest of their people. Such allegations are entirely unsubstantiated and constitute a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility of the traditional institution.

Nothing can be more insulting than suggesting that royal fathers of such eminence, pedigree, accomplishment, and influence could be assembled and induced with a paltry sum to express views on matters affecting their communities. Such a claim is not only false and reckless but also a direct affront to the dignity, honour, and integrity of the traditional institution.

While political actors and their supporters reserve the right to express divergent opinions on issues of representation and power sharing, it is both embarrassing and condemnable to drag highly respected monarchs into partisan controversies simply because they exercised their legitimate right to advocate for equity, fairness, and political stability within Kwara South Senatorial District.

The traditional rulers who addressed the public did so in pursuit of what they consider a legitimate concern affecting their people. Their position may be debated, accepted, or rejected in the marketplace of ideas, but resorting to unfounded allegations that eminent monarchs were induced to voice their opinions is a grave assault on the dignity of the traditional institution.

It is important to remind the public that many of the monarchs involved, including the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, the Alaran of Arandun, and several others, attained remarkable heights in their professional and personal endeavours before ascending the revered stools of their forefathers. These are accomplished personalities whose records of service and achievements are well known across Kwara State and beyond.

To suggest that such distinguished monarchs could compromise their honour, integrity, and lifelong reputations for a token amount is not only absurd and laughable but also profoundly disrespectful. Those making such allegations owe the traditional rulers and the public a duty to provide credible evidence or retract their claims.

The attempt to portray the collective position of the traditional rulers as the product of inducement rather than conviction reflects a disturbing decline in the quality of public discourse. Traditional rulers remain custodians of culture, peace, values, and communal harmony. They possess every right to express opinions on matters affecting the welfare, unity, development, and political stability of their domains.

Equally disturbing is the repeated claim that Muheeba Dankaka, an aspirant secured an overwhelming margin of 74,000 votes in an exercise whose details remain largely unavailable for public scrutiny. Such a claim raises legitimate questions that deserve transparent answers rather than emotional propaganda and media grandstanding.

Democracy thrives on facts, transparency, and accountability, not on unverifiable statistics and manufactured narratives.

The agitation by the Igbomina Traditional Council is fundamentally about equity, fairness, inclusion, justice, and the preservation of political stability within Kwara South. Reasonable people may hold differing opinions on the subject, but disagreement must never degenerate into attacks on revered royal fathers whose only offence is expressing their perspective on an issue of significant public importance.

The traditional institution predates contemporary politics and must never be reduced to a target of political frustration, propaganda, or character assassination. Respect for our royal fathers, civility in public discourse, and commitment to truth should remain the guiding principles as conversations about the future of Kwara South continue.

All Kwara South Traditional Rulers United on 2027 Senate Seat Agitation – Olupo of Ajase-Ipo

The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Bolaji Muhammed Yahaya Atoloye Alebiosu, has affirmed that the call for the zoning of the Kwara South Senatorial seat to the Igbomina axis enjoys the backing and support of traditional rulers across the senatorial district.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with this medium, the monarch said the agitation for equity and fair political representation is not an isolated position of the Igbomina Traditional Council but one that has received widespread endorsement from royal fathers across Kwara South.

According to him, several traditional rulers from different parts of the senatorial district have personally reached out to express solidarity with the demand, describing it as a just and reasonable call aimed at preserving fairness, inclusiveness, and political stability within the district.

The Olupo stressed that support for the Igbomina aspiration transcends ethnic, clan, and political considerations, noting that the quest is rooted in the principle of equitable power rotation rather than sectional interests.

He challenged those attempting to portray the agitation as a divisive or ethnic campaign to seek public declarations from their own traditional rulers if they believe such contrary positions enjoy similar royal backing.

The monarch commended members of the Igbomina Traditional Council and other stakeholders for pursuing the cause through peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement, emphasizing that the growing support from across Kwara South demonstrates a shared commitment to justice and balanced political representation.

He maintained that the overwhelming consensus among traditional rulers reflects a collective desire to strengthen unity in Kwara South by ensuring that every constituent bloc is given a fair opportunity to occupy elective positions within the established framework of equity and rotation.

IGBOMINA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL DEMANDS SENATE SLOT FOR IGBOMINA IN 2027, WARNS AGAINST DISRUPTING KWARA SOUTH POWER ROTATION

Ajase Ipo,June 1, 2026

By Babatunde Opoola

The Igbomina Traditional Council has formally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to uphold the long-standing rotational arrangement governing political offices in Kwara South Senatorial District by ensuring that the district's senatorial seat rotates to the Igbomina bloc in 2027.

In a communiqué issued on Monday and signed on behalf of the council, the traditional rulers stressed that their intervention was aimed at preserving equity, peace, political stability, and harmonious coexistence among the three major ethnic blocs that make up Kwara South—Ekiti, Ibolo, and Igbomina.

The council commended President Tinubu's administration for its economic reforms and developmental initiatives, while also applauding Governor AbdulRazaq for what it described as purposeful leadership and inclusive governance in Kwara State.

According to the traditional rulers, the unwritten but widely respected rotational arrangement among the three ethnic blocs has served as a stabilising mechanism that promotes fairness, inclusion, mutual trust, and political balance across the district.

The communiqué recalled that the Ekiti bloc occupied the Senate seat for about eleven years through the representation of Senator Simeon Sule Ajibola, while the Ibolo bloc would have completed a cumulative twelve years in office by 2027 through the tenures of the late Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and Senator Lola Ashiru.

By contrast, the council noted that the Igbomina bloc, despite being the largest ethnic group within the senatorial district, has occupied the position for only five years through the tenure of Senator Makanjuola Ajadi.

Based on this historical arrangement, the traditional rulers argued that fairness and justice dictate that the Senate seat should return to the Igbomina bloc in the next electoral cycle.

They stated that the position was recently reaffirmed at an Igbomina General Meeting where stakeholders unanimously endorsed the "Igbomina Lokan" agenda as the collective aspiration of the people ahead of the 2027 elections.

The council explained that the slogan was not merely a political catchphrase but a legitimate demand rooted in the principles of equity, inclusiveness, and respect for an established political understanding that has sustained peace in the district for decades.

The traditional rulers warned that any attempt to alter the rotational arrangement or undermine the principle of equitable power sharing could generate feelings of exclusion and marginalization, weaken inter-ethnic trust, create avoidable political tensions, and threaten the stability that Kwara South has enjoyed over the years.

"We respectfully urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the leadership of the APC, and all stakeholders to ensure that no action is taken that could undermine the established spirit of equitable rotation, weaken internal party democracy, or create a sense of exclusion among the people of Igbomina land," the communiqué stated.

The council further maintained that history has shown that lasting peace, unity, and electoral success are best achieved when justice and fairness are upheld.

Reaffirming its position, the Igbomina Traditional Council declared that, in line with the district's long-standing tradition of political balance and fairness, the Kwara South Senatorial seat should rotate to the Igbomina bloc in 2027.

The monarchs concluded by appealing for the sustenance of the arrangement in the interest of peace, equity, stability, and continued unity among the people of Kwara South. They also offered prayers for the continued progress of Kwara State and Nigeria.

The communiqué was endorsed and signed by prominent traditional rulers across Igbomina land, including the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, HRM Oba Ismail Bolaji Muhammed Yahaya Atoloye Alebiosu; the Olupako of Share, HRM Oba Suleiman Olawale Haruna; the Elesie of Esie, HRM Oba Ibrahim Yakub Babalola; the Oloro of Oro-Ago, HRM Oba Johnson Olarewaju Dada; the Elesa of Oke-Ode, HRM Oba Muftau Akanbi Adebayo Ibrahim; the Olomu of Omupo, HRM Oba Yakub Adebayo Busari; the Alaran of Aran-Orin, HRM Oba J.O. Babalola; the Alaran of Arandun, HRM Oba I.O. Adekanye; and the Oloko of Oko-Irese, HRM Oba Victor O. Olawuyi.

Observers say the intervention by the revered monarchs is likely to add significant momentum to the growing "Igbomina Lokan" campaign ahead of the political realignments expected in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
