Sincerely listening is just as important as singing itself ,a good listener will not have issues with going offkey or pitch accuracy .
Listening it’s actually part of the foundation of good music .

1)to be a good listener ,you must listen with the intentions of analyzing.
Listen and analyze the music or material,listen to the pitch ,tone and style .

2)when listening to music,focus on what you want to hear or achieve,if you are a tenor singer focus on listening to the tenor parts closely.
If you are an alto singer ,focus more on the alto parts and achieve your goal .

3)pay attention to details when listening,pay attention to intro and breaks ,syncopation and all of that .
Understand where voice parts is been swapped,know when they sing in unison.
Just understand the technicality of the song .
How many times they sang a phrase and how many times they repeated it .

LISTEN TO CHALLENGING SONGS

The songs you listen too as a singer or instrumentalist,contribute to how you will sound .
Music works with the mind ,and you can get better subconscious or become worst subconscious as a singer or instrumentalist.

Listen to songs that are quite challenging for you as a singer,it builds your mind,it sharpens your musical sense .
It tells your brain how you should sound or how a good vocals should sound .

Challenging songs builds you up subconsciously ,weather as a singer or an instrumentalist.
When you keep listening to challenging songs you keep getting better ,your mind will start expecting more from you anytime you sing or play .

You will no longer be comfortable in your poor performance or playing,you will start striving to do better.
That’s actually what listening to challenging songs will do to you .

When you listen to songs that are not challenging enough,you will never grow or get better.
You will keep sounding like you always ,sounding very poor and upcoming.
Don’t enjoy doing simple songs or playing simple songs .

Enjoy singing challenging songs or playing challenging songs ,this will boot your growth and set your mind in the right state for improvement.

HOW TO IDENTIFY THE RIGHT KEY BEFORE YOU SING 💯

Before you hold the mic to sing ,when the pianist is playin and setting up the atmosphere.
Listen to what he is playing ,the chord progressions.

Don’t just start like that ,hum the sound the pianist is producing ,hum the sound before starting your song.
This will help you start the song on key ,most singers with bad ear training,they enter their song with an offkey .
No matter the kind of intro the pianist give to them ,they still enter with an offkey .

This humming pattern will help you not to enter with an offkey ,is a cheat most people take for granted ,but it works allot .
Musicians hum ,do you know ?
Even your pianist hum most times before finding your key .
Guitarist hum ,singers hum .

Humming is actually a cheat that we look down on but it has a powerful effect in helping us get the right key ,or start on the right key .
For you to test if the key is either high or low for you as a singer ,you must hum .

And when humming ,please start with a comfortable range ,because you are trying to get your key and know how to enter wi to our going off .
Don’t start humming with a high rang ,you might end up Messing things up .

When humming try to match it with what the pianist is playing,until your humming blends in with what the pianist is playing,don’t sing .
Because you might hum and still sing off ,let your humming blend in with what the pianist is playing before You start too sing .

This humming technique is a cheat to help you start on key ,is a cheat to help instrumentalist find the key of a song .
This is for those who don’t have perfect pitch yet (ear training).

Some instrumentalists try to show off by playing too much or too loud. This distracts from the main song. Remember, the goal is to support the music, not compete with it.

3)Ignoring the Leader or Conductor

On stage, cues from the music leader, conductor, or singer are important. Missing these cues creates confusion. Keep your eyes and ears open at all times.

4)Lack of Stage Presence

Looking bored, distracted, or careless on stage affects the audience’s experience. Sit or stand properly, look confident, and stay engaged with the music.

5)Talking or Making Noise on Stage

Unnecessary talking, laughing, or random playing during a performance is unprofessional. Respect the stage atmosphere and stay focused.

6)Poor Communication with Other Musicians

Not listening or blending with others causes imbalance in sound. Work as a team, listen carefully, and adjust your volume and timing.

Relying Too Much on Memory Without Backup

Forgetting parts in the middle of a performance can be embarrassing. Use chord sheets, notes, or marks on your score as support if necessary.

7)Ignoring Technical Setup

Not checking cables, pedals, stands, or microphones before performing can lead to problems. Always set up early, test your equipment, and avoid surprises.

Taking note of these mistakes will make you more professional, reliable, and enjoyable to work with.
A disciplined and prepared instrumentalist makes the stage experience excellent for everyone.
