This is Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea. He has been in power for 14 years, having taken over in 2011, after the death of his father, Kim Jong-il.

North Korea is one of nine countries that are known to have nuclear weapons. These countries are:

▪️ United States
▪️ Russia
▪️ China
▪️ France
▪️ United Kingdom
▪️ India
▪️ Pakistan
▪️ Israel (though Israel doesn't confirm or deny)
▪️ North Korea

I have noticed that sometimes people do not know the difference between North Korea and South Korea, so let me give you a very brief summary.

THE BACKGROUND!

For many centuries, Korea was one united kingdom ruled by different dynasties. At this point there was no North or South Korea.

In 1910, Japan took control of Korea and made it a colony. Japan ruled Korea for 35 years. Many Koreans tried to resist Japanese rule, but Japan remained in control.

In 1945, Japan lost World War II. When Japan was defeated, it also lost its colonies. Japan itself went under American rule for a while.

Korea, which had been a Japanese colony, was shared between America and the Soviet Union. No Korean citizen was consulted in this decision.

The Soviet Union took the northern half, while the United States took the southern half. That is how we ended up with North Korea and South Korea.

In the north, the Soviets supported Kim Il-sung, who became the leader of North Korea. He was the grandfather of the current leader, Kim Jong Un.

In the south, the United States helped create a new government. Syngman Rhee became the first president of South Korea.

So as they became separate countries, North Korea and South Korea inherited the ideological differences between America and the Soviet Union. Both governments in the North and South claimed to be the true government of all Korea. Each side wanted to unite the country under its own system. Because of this, tensions grew between the two sides.

Jonathan is the world’s oldest known living land animal, a giant tortoise estimated to be around 192 years old. Born in the early 1830s, Jonathan has lived through the Industrial Revolution, two World Wars, and the rise of the modern world, all while remaining on the remote island of Saint Helena, where he resides today. Despite his age, he continues to eat, rest in the sun, and move slowly through his enclosure, cared for by veterinarians and conservationists. Though he has lost his sense of smell and most of his eyesight, Jonathan’s long life stands as a remarkable example of longevity in the animal kingdom and a living link to nearly two centuries of history. 🐢🌟🎉🌎

This woman shared these pictures

The one on the left is the day her husband was leaving for an assignment

The one on the right is when he was freed from captivity after 11 months

He was held as a captive where he went on an assignment

This must be so traumatic for them
I am glad he is back to her

Nigeria’s shea is our green wealth. We produce nearly 40% of the world’s supply, yet capture less than 1% of its $6.5bn global market. That imbalance ends now.

I have approved a six-month suspension of raw shea exports, on the recommendation of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit, to secure supply for local processors, create jobs, and protect a value chain where 95% of pickers are women.

This is a win for our farmers, for our women, and for Nigeria.

VP Kashim Shettima will work with stakeholders to rapidly expand processing capacity and ensure that this reform translates into lasting prosperity.

With new market access opening in Brazil and beyond, we will no longer export poverty and import value. We will create value at home, compete abroad, and deliver prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Today is World Hausa Day and I am here to celebrate them, not just as a Nigerian but as someone who has lived for about a decade in Northern Nigeria and as someone who speaks the language very well.

Hausa is one of the most widely spoken indigenous languages in Africa, competing favourably with Swahili. It is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria and Niger republic as well as the dominant indegenous language in West Africa.

The Hausa people are easy going, generous (sometimes to a fault) and generally trust worthy (aminci).

Their cuisine is very rich from various types of Tuwo (Shinkafa, Dawa, Masara etc) with accompanying soups to the famous "Suya", Kuli Kuli, dambu, alkubus, biski, gurasa, fate etc.
They are great farmers and produce onions, rice, ground nut, peppers, tomatoes and many grains in large quantities.
They are one of the few ethnic groups in Africa that delight in chatting online exclusively in Hausa.
They are also known to be never ashamed of speaking their language any where in the world. They give their language first place among all languages. Similarly, they give special consideration to whoever attempts to speak in Hausa. Consequently, the language keeps spreading like wild fire.

It is one of the very few languages in Africa with foreign stations like BBC, VOA, RFI etc broadcasting in their language.

Happy World Hausa Day.
