🇳🇬 Nigeria Democracy Day 2026
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, Child Shield Initiative joins millions of citizens in reflecting on the promises of democracy which are freedom, justice, participation, accountability, and equal opportunities for all.
While we celebrate democratic progress, we also raise our voice for the millions of children whose rights and voices remain unheard.
A truly democratic society must create and protect civic spaces where children can safely express their views, participate in decisions that affect their lives, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
We are concerned about the persistent insecurity affecting children across the country. From violence and displacement to abductions, exploitation, and attacks on schools, too many Nigerian children continue to face threats that rob them of their safety, education, and future.
Democracy must work for every child.
On this Democracy Day, Child Shield Initiative calls on government, policymakers, communities, and stakeholders to:
Strengthen child protection systems and safeguard children from violence and abuse.
Expand safe civic spaces for children and young people to participate in governance and decision-making.
Prioritize quality education, healthcare, and social protection for all children.
Address insecurity and ensure that every child can learn, play, and grow in a safe environment.
The strength of our democracy is measured not only by elections and institutions but by how well we protect and empower our children.
A democratic Nigeria must be a Nigeria where every child is safe, heard, educated, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.

RED CARD TO CHILD LABOUR!
Today, on the World Day Against Child Labour 2026, Child Shield Initiative joins the global call to end child labour and protect every child's right to a safe, healthy, and fulfilling childhood.
While millions of children around the world are still trapped in child labour, many deprived of education, protection, and opportunities, we remain committed to creating a future where every child can learn, play, dream, and thrive.
Through our advocacy, community engagement, child protection initiatives, education support, awareness campaigns, and partnerships, we continue to stand against all forms of child labour and exploitation.
At Child Shield Initiative, we believe that children belong in classrooms, on playgrounds, and in safe environments not in hazardous work.
Today, we raise a RED CARD to child labour and reaffirm our commitment to promoting quality education, protecting children's rights, and building communities where every child can reach their full potential.
Together, let's protect childhood, strengthen families, and create lasting change.

Every girl deserves the chance to learn, dream, and reach her full potential. Yet, for millions of girls in Nigeria, education remains out of reach due to poverty, insecurity, child marriage, and harmful social norms.
According to UNICEF:
7.6 million girls in Nigeria are out of school, more than 50% of girls are not attending basic education. Only 9% of girls from the poorest households attend secondary school, compared to 81% from the wealthiest households.
Behind every statistic is a girl whose dreams, talents, and future are at risk.
Educating girls is one of the most powerful investments a nation can make. Educated girls are more likely to stay healthy, earn higher incomes, participate in decision-making, and contribute to peaceful and prosperous communities.
At Child Shield Initiative, we remain committed to advocating for equitable access to quality education for every girl, amplifying girls' voices, promoting safe learning environments, and supporting initiatives that empower girls to thrive and lead.
Today, on the International Day of Play 2026, Child Shield Initiative joins the global community in celebrating the power of play under the theme: "Protect Play, Protect Childhood."
Play is more than fun, it is essential for every child's learning, development, wellbeing, and happiness.
Every child deserves safe spaces, opportunities, and the freedom to play, explore, and thrive.
As we celebrate today, let us all commit to protecting children's right to play and ensuring that every childhood is filled with joy, creativity, and hope.

At Child Shield Initiative, we believe that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, protective, and nurturing environment.
The Child Rights Act serves as a vital framework for safeguarding children's rights, including their right to education, healthcare, protection from abuse, participation, and overall well-being.
As advocates for children, we remain committed to raising awareness, promoting child protection, and ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to learn, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Protecting children is not just a legal obligation, it is a collective responsibility.
Staying safe!

Child Shield Initiative, in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), paid an impactful visit to Senior Secondary School, Jeida, to educate students on road safety, responsible road use, and the importance of protecting lives through safe practices.
The session was fun, refreshing, engaging, and highly educative as students actively participated in discussions and practical learning activities. The enthusiasm displayed by the students was remarkable, with many asking thoughtful questions and sharing their experiences, making the interaction lively and meaningful.
At Child Shield Initiative, we believe that empowering young people with the right knowledge today helps build a safer and more responsible society tomorrow.
We appreciate the Federal Road Safety Corps for their commitment to promoting road safety awareness among children and young people.
Together, we are raising informed, responsible, and safety-conscious future leaders.

Child Shield Initiative was represented at a strategic training on Why-Why Analysis and Gender Analysis on GRESP, organized by the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) with support from Education Out Loud.
The training strengthened our capacity to identify the root causes of barriers affecting education and to apply gender-responsive approaches in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating interventions.
At Child Shield Initiative, we believe that lasting change requires more than addressing visible challenges, it requires understanding the underlying factors that keep children, especially girls and other vulnerable groups, from accessing quality education and opportunities.
The knowledge and skills gained from this training will further enhance our advocacy, programming, and evidence-based interventions as we continue to champion child protection, educational access, gender equality, and inclusive development.
We remain committed to learning, innovation, and building solutions that address not only the symptoms of inequality but also its root causes.
