Our fellows in Plateau State, with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria visited the NYSC Secretariat to engage directly with corps members on critical issues surrounding Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Through knowledge-sharing, they created a space for awareness, equipping young people with the information and tools needed to recognise, prevent, and respond to SGBV in the communities they serve.

Human trafficking continues to undermine child safety in Nigeria.

As part of the project, with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria, our fellows in Plateau State visited the National Human Rights Commission to discuss policy and institutional responses to child protection.

Through the , we noticed a pattern of insecurity marked by a sharp increase in both fatalities and abductions, and fluctuating incident frequency.

Also in March, 36 incidents of abduction were recorded in 14 states.

These abductions led to the kidnapping of 481 individuals, with Borno State alone accounting for 300 abductions.

In Q1 of 2026, the recorded 421 security incidents, resulting in 1,558 fatalities. In the last month of the quarter, March, the northwestern region of the country had the highest number of incidents.
