This year I got the honour of being invited to be a guest mentor at Roundhouse for their Music Collective project. I say mentor, but honestly it was me doing the learning from these legends. Back in ican'trememberwhatyearitwasbutitwastheyeariwentthroughabout7differentjobsand3flats, I auditioned for the roundhouse music collective and had my mind blown when i realised one of our programme leaders was none other than Rahel of Hejira and singer of "i'm fine by Eric Lau" fame (was OBSESSED with that track the year I moved to London). Cut forward to now and I've got her to thank for putting me forward for the opportunity ❤️. Was totally touched and frog throated at the first session when they played me covers of 2 songs I wrote and recorded right there in the roundhouse! I met my first live band there! Started being 'Skinny Pelembe' there! I got to play those tunes again with these amazing future stars at the ThreeSixty Festival, and help guide them with some genuinely fantastic songs. Can't wait to be seeing them at airports and festivals in a few years in their future guises. Thanks Barnaby Keen (check out his new stuff, it's unreal), Fran Lobo, was already a big fan, Betty and Chloe, loved working with ya ❤️ Also, who knew, i think i'm a gibson SG guy now! 🫠

A couple years ago I met 2 people at the Rough Trade Bristol show, for the Hardly The Same Snake album. Had no idea while signing that album for Charles Strider that I was meeting two great future friends in him and Red Wade. I guess that’s my favourite part of doing this. Charles mentioned he was working on a film, and fast forward to now, “A Glass House” has premiered at the Bolton Film Festival, received the Honourable Award for Best Drama Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival and long-listed for several awards at the The British Short Film Awards!
The next screening will be at the Northampton Film Festival , where it’s been nominated for best short film, and I’m honoured to have had a tiny part in it, playing the memory of Milo. Thanks for getting me out of my shell guys, love yers! ❤️

Well, look at that, Depeche Mode, The Smile, Skinny Pelembe 🌈 I’m really made up for Jai Moseley that his video for 'Don’t Be Another' is up for Best Alternative Music Video at the uk music video awards. My songs are my babies and it’s a weird thing letting someone else dress your baby up and present it to the world like Rafiki in the lion king, but 5 minutes into meeting Jai, all I could think was, “let this guy do whatever he wants to, not gonna give him any notes, I just know he’s gonna nail it”. And he did. I’m not sure how, but he managed to pull a California-tinted facsimile of all the fears, doubts and hopes when I wrote it, from out of my head, and mirror it back in gorgeous technicolour. This is a long way round of saying that Jai Moseley has got SOUL and he absolutely deserves to be nominated alongside heroes like the mighty Paul Thomas Anderson ❤️

Really enjoyed doing last months Soho Radio mix, all these old classy tunes out there that make life feel technicolor, but even better that some of them are by new bands that out there livin. Livin and breathin. Met a few of them while I was tour playing in WITCH. Playin some Moonwalks (the coolest scrappy bastards out there (thanks for the signed LP, finally got round to playing it ❤)) and Shadow. Show - both bands that the mighty plays drums for. Also the lovely Holiday Ghosts who joined us in the UK. Maybe the best bit was how on the last song of the show, we'd swap instruments with them and basically just leave them to end the show for us. Great trick. Also, Dick Stusso. Wow. Immense! Anyway, new show on Soho Radio tomorrow at 4pm, till then, February's mix is up now in the bio ✌❤

Primero Fue El Sonido made sweet little fanzine book called "Great Or Small", collating the original scribblings of their favourite lyrics of 2023, and I got a copy in the post! Cool to see Black Market Karma and the mighty We Intend To Cause Havoc in there too! Muchas gracias! ❤️
