We dream a society free from the stereotypes and prejudices associated with mental disorders, where the individual’s differences constitute opportunity Onlus.
The Vanghano Va Infulene Association is a Mozambican non profit organization, established in 2001 with the main objective to provide psychosocial support for mentally ill people and those in risk of social exclusion due to their state of vulnerability. We dream a society free from the stereotypes and prejudices associated with mental disorders, where the individual’s differences constitute opportu
nity for overall development. Vanghano Va Infulene prevents mental illness at the primary level due to excess of alcohol and drugs consumption, stimulates the developement of community consciousness on stigmatization and cultural barriers and advocates for social reintegration of people post psychiatric treatment due to mental health disturbances. Our great extent goes to women as the base of family development by promoting informal labour and traditional social protection, due to dependency towards cultural values that often drives them to extreme poverty. The association is affiliated to the Ministry of Health of Mozambique and due to its commitment and great performance on community work , the association has been chosen by the City’s Department of Health as focal point for 52 national organizations operating in health area. In addition, has also received from the Government of Gaza Province, a diploma of honour for its contribution on reducing Mother and Child Mortality Strategy. Vanghano Va Infulene head office is located in the Zimpeto District, in front of Psychiatric Hospital of Infulene. The Association is composed by 50 activists, 4 psychologists among them 2 project managers and 1 accountant. Since 2005 to 2013 the association has executed several projects such as advocacy in mental health, HIV/AIDS, promotion of community mental health, social reintegration, promotion of traditional social protection, community’s capacitation on micro business in Maputo and maternal and child health in Gaza province. To execute these projects, we are supported financially by European community, Italian Cooperation and Private Organization based in Italy Antoniano Onlus and A.G.A.P.E.
