Not all our website clients are service professionals.

Sometimes, they are manufacturing companies based in rural industrial areas — the kind of businesses that quietly keep entire industries running.

In many of these companies, there is usually an IT manager. But a marketing-focused website is not really an IT function.

To us, a website belongs under sales and marketing.

Because its job is not just to “exist online” — it is to help the business grow.

When we work with B2B companies, the goal is often to strike a balance.

The website needs to feel:
• professional
• credible
• structured

But also human.

Because even in B2B, the buyer or purchaser is still a person making a decision.

And people connect with people — not just company profiles, certifications or product lists.

If a website is too focused on being corporate, without any story or human touch, it becomes harder for the buyer to feel connected.

That’s why we always try to bring both sides together — professionalism and humanity.

Nic has been busy behind the scenes working on enhancing our Big Timer game.

One of the things we’ve been discussing is how different players need different levels of challenge and complexity.

Some people are completely new to business and entrepreneurship, so they need a simpler way to understand concepts like:
• customers
• products
• pricing
• cash flow

Others are ready for more advanced strategy and decision-making.

That’s why we’re working on creating different levels within the game experience — so players can grow their confidence and skills progressively instead of feeling overwhelmed from the start.

What we love about Big Timer is that people learn by doing.

They make decisions, experiment and see the consequences unfold in real time.

And honestly, that’s often far more memorable than sitting through slides or lectures.

This is also why we’re excited about bringing Big Timer into universities through our community program. (If you're a business owner, partner with us in this program!)

Students don’t just learn about entrepreneurship theoretically — they experience it through gameplay, teamwork, problem-solving and discussions.

We’ve seen how games can open people up. Students become more engaged.
Conversations become more dynamic. Ideas start flowing naturally.

Dr Khoo Saye Thiam first knew about us through Dr Somas.

Back then, they were both at GMC (later, Dr Khoo decided to go to Lam Wah Ee Hospital). He was suitably impressed with Dr Somas' website so much so that he called us and asked if we could also develop his website.

That was more than a decade ago.

He is also one of the major supporters of Marketing Mojo - a quarterly networking event that we used to organize at China House Cafe. We stopped organizing it in 2019, after 7 years, as we wanted to take a break. Lucky for us that we did that because we all know what happened in 2020.

Dr Khoo is an avid pianist, a music connoisseur and a drone enthusiast. (He once taught us how to fly a drone which was an exciting experience!) It's interesting when clients become friends.

While Dr Khoo, who is a general surgeon, moved from one hospital to another, his website still works hard to get patients through his clinic door!

This is what many service professionals and experts don't realize - if you had your own digital real estate, you are in control of your business. If you rely on the hospital where you work at, you'll be on a long waiting list as there are usually 50 or more doctors whose services need promotion too (particularly if you work in a private hospital).

When Dr Khoo moved hospitals, all he needed to do was get us to update his website with his new clinic address and new phone number. Everything else on the website was still 100% his - his services and his expertise.

17 years.

That’s how long Dr Somas has been our website client.

When we first met him all those years ago, he already understood something that many professionals were still ignoring:

Our new solar farms go live: A major step toward our Net Zero goal 11/05/2026

One thing we really admire about Canva is that they don’t just talk about impact — they actively bring their ecosystem along for the journey.

We recently read about Canva co-funding solar farms together with their print suppliers as part of their journey toward net zero emissions. What stood out wasn’t just the sustainability initiative itself, but how they approached it.

Instead of pushing responsibility downstream and expecting suppliers to “figure it out,” Canva chose collaboration.

They created a shared Climate Commitment where suppliers, partners and Canva work together toward reducing emissions. That’s leadership.

Even smarter? They openly published their framework so other companies can learn from it and adapt it for themselves. There’s a quiet humility in saying:
“This is what’s working for us — feel free to build on it.”

That’s the kind of business thinking we respect:

If more companies treated sustainability as a shared ecosystem challenge instead of a PR exercise, we’d probably move a lot faster.
